What to wear with this dress to keep me warm

Hi all, my little brother is getting married in April, so likely to be a bit chilly still. They've also asked me to do some photos along with SIL to be's uncle (we both have DSLRs) so not going to be a case of getting out of the car, going inside the venue and staying inside - probably be outside taking photos at one point and I have a tendency to turn blue when cold.

This is the dress https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/355259293810?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=emPG9h2yRt-&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=ydqefJ5wTYm&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY

Just need something to stop me freezing and turning a similar shade to the dress.

Beautiful dress. Maybe a couple of heated pouches in Spanx.

Useitorloseit23 · 02/01/2024 15:47

Is the top bit see through? I would suggets thermal leggings/tights and thermal vest if it won't show through or long sleeve top in similar colour. I have got lovely thermals in M&S from last couple of years but I imagine they will still have them this year although I haven't looked as I have enough now! If you just need a coat to put on while out maybe you can hire a nice one somehwere?

Smoggy1 · 02/01/2024 15:52

The arms and very top are translucent and the back is quite open - I'm not even planning on wearing a proper bra because you'd see the back strap (I don't actually particularly need one anyway) so thermal vest isn't really an option.
I was thinking some kind of shrug. Maybe like faux fur. Hoping people might have other options. If I wasn't a wedding, I'd shove my black leather jacket over it.

I think a fur shrug would work, or a loose/soft blazer in a neutral colour?

heyhohello · 02/01/2024 15:59

Sorry may be too hot in April...🧐

Raincloudsonasunnyday · 02/01/2024 16:00

Yes, I would say a white teddy bear/ fluffy bolero-length jacket (assuming you’ll have bare legs or sheer tights)

Smoggy1 · 02/01/2024 16:01

You'd hope. My granddad was born in April and it regularly snowed on his birthday. It could be pleasant, but it could also be absolutely freezing!

Absolutely, faux fur is what I was going to suggest before I even saw the dress. Would be perfect.

Lilsoph · 02/01/2024 16:01

What about a velvet cape/ cloak in navy. Ive got a black one from M&S a number of years ago, but have a look on ebay or vinted. It generally gets an outing Christmas and new year and weddings. Navy wont be as heavy in April as a black one.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/01/2024 16:02

If you're going to be outside doing the photography I honestly don't see why you can't wear your black leather jacket over it or any other normal coat or raincoat- It would look more stylish than a weddingy type shrug.

For photos you will be in, then just whip it off for when you're being snapped and once you're inside the venue you'll take it off anyway.

That's not an easy dress to get a top layer for as it's not meant to have anything over it. A shrug would look twee - loose trench style coat would look much better.

Smoggy1 · 02/01/2024 16:02

Yep. Sheer tights and some silvery shoes with a kitten heel. Is white appropriate? I'm not sure how far that rule stretches as obviously men wearing white shirts is perfectly acceptable.

My mum might have something I can lend that would work actually. I'll have to raid her wardrobe.

A cape / cloak is very easy to make and there are a number of patterns including vogue. It doesn't have to be velvet but needs to be a substantial fabric. Any tailors near you?

heyhohello · 02/01/2024 16:04

Always worth looking on Vinted and the like too.

Nancy Mac would be my first choice - other styles and colours are on their site and £15 off your first order if your join their mailing list

Smoggy1 · 02/01/2024 16:08

I have always wanted a cloak and it would fit with the fairy-ish vibe of the dress

April is a funny one. That faux fur bolero is lovely but very wintery wedding vibes. April 2020 was an absolute scorcher and the ones since have been mild but not overly sunny. You might melt in that fur, or look like a drowned rat if it’s showery. I’d have a few options at the ready.

Defiantlynot41 · 02/01/2024 16:15

With pictures this time

Defiantlynot41 · 02/01/2024 16:16

Or maybe not!

idontlikealdi · 02/01/2024 16:17

I'd wear the leather jacket.

Defiantly41 · 02/01/2024 17:23

Maddening. I’ve had to swap to the online version to post photos
