Funky backpack for travelling

SpeedbirdSquawker · 30/12/2023 16:54

Hi, I'm going away and I would like a backpack to carry all my belongings in. It has to be no bigger than 45 x 36 x 20 cm.

I'd love something bright and colourful. I'm going somewhere warm so anything that's feminine and summery would also be welcome. I particularly like straw bags. I'd also welcome a backpack with a pattern or little characters on.

Budget would be £50 max.

Thanks!

how long going for?

rochethenut · 30/12/2023 16:56

you are going travelling with hand luggage only? what kind of travelling?

SpeedbirdSquawker · 30/12/2023 16:58

It's a week in Southern Spain. I'll take three dresses, a nightie, knickers and the shoes I have on my feet. I'll have access to a washing machine.

rochethenut · 30/12/2023 17:00

rochethenut · 30/12/2023 17:01

Toiletries will be there for me. I'll pop my phone charger in. My bra, I'll wash in the machine there. I won't need a swimming costume. The water will be too cold to swim.

I'm so determined not to pay to take a case!

staying in one place or travelling?

walking or more relaxing?

either way… you will likely need cardigans (at least) and long trousers at this time of year

SpeedbirdSquawker · 30/12/2023 17:15

I'll be staying in one place.

No, I only ever take hand luggage. A small backpack is more than fine for a week. Wear the bigger items.

in summer fine

but a handbag or small ruck sack of a week when you will need cardigans, socks, pair of trousers and possibly a raincoat too?

ah that’s more straightforward. when you said travelling… i assumed travelling around and for a few weeks at least!

rochethenut · 30/12/2023 17:30

what about paying extra for a large cabin bag?

That’s why you wear the trousers, jumper and raincoat. I’ve done it loads of times. My grown-up DC would only take a tote bag for a trip like that.

Ah good. I was doubting myself.

I've got the 30l RPET backpack in mango from this website, and it holds a lot more than a standard 30l rucksack. It opens out like a suitcase, so you pack it as you would a suitcase (although that means you can't just rummage for stuff at the top as you would in a backpack!)

When are you travelling?

yes but if trousers and jumper are needed everyday (which is likely) then you’re stuck wearing same trouser and maybe one other jumper for a week!

That's what I was thinking of doing. The planes are always freezing! At least I'll be snug.

You won't want to carry a rucksack around with you during the day on holiday so pack an extra bag - I've got one of those parachute silk fold up totes which does the trick.

If you're going to be a town, you can buy anything you need; it may be cheaper to do so than to pay for the extra luggage on the plane.

That's very handy, thanks! I like the sound of a rucksack that opens out like a case.

There are lots of people who make "maximum carry on" size cases, usually well designed with pockets and straps to optimise what you can take. like this.

It's worth having a Google, but also check against your airline's max carry on requirements as they are all different.

There’s loads on TikTok atm if you search for something like travel backpack.
