Stylish, comfy boots for walking many miles sightseeing?

Help!
I recently went on a trip to a city where we walked 40,000 steps over the course of the weekend. Had a fab time but…… ow.my.feet!
I had blisters on the bottom of my feet! I wore boots that I’ve worn lots of times for walking around a lot, but they clearly aren’t any good for this kind of walking. A friend has a pair of Dr Martens and says she swears by them. I tried a pair on but found them clunky and restrictive around my ankles (although only wore for a few minutes so feel free to tell me to persevere)

I want a pair that I can wear for sightseeing, comfy AND stylish so I feel smart going for meals etc while sightseeing. Hence not considering traditional walking boots.

Please can you recommend what you have that fits the brief above?
Thanks!

Thanks everyone! Some really great suggestions here and all look perfect for what I’m looking for! I definitely think the reason my feet were so bad is what you have said above, my current ones let my foot slip slightly back and fore, hence the issue!
Thanks everyone!

I actually prefer the Moshulu Fiord boots, the sole is more rubbery. Bardsey are ok though.

My favourite make for smartish walking is Ecco, they're really well made with good soles and soft leather. Often gore-tex too, so your feet stay dry.

I have several pairs of boots by Lanx.
They are amazing for walking and everyday wear. I have walked miles round cities in them and found them great.

These are 😍

Are they heavy (as heavy as DMs) and would you say they are wide or narrow?

I got some sorel explorer boots Black Friday and whilst not smart I felt reasonably stylish. they are so comfortable warm and waterproof and great for winter sightseeing and I did wear them to the Ivy where we went for dinner!

These ones- probably not what you are after but I loves them. I'd wanted some snow boots for a few years and thought I'd only wear them in snow but they are great all day for sightseeing.

I have some Pikolino lace up boots that are super comfy and don't need breaking in. They don't have the exact style have but some very similar.

Oh these are cute x

I have some Barbour Hamsterly boots and oh my! So so comfy and I really struggle with any footwear beyond Skechers. Highly recommended

LonelynSad · 31/12/2023 02:33

You can also get them in black :)

They aren't as heavy as Dm but they are incredibly well made. I didn't have to wear them in like I do with Docs. I have The Whalley and The Reed ( if you know Lancashire, the boots and shies are all local place names)
Size wise, I'm not sure about wide or small. I'm just a regular size 6 and they are great for me.

I'd also add Timberlands to that list - they're very comfortable and sturdy (and you can often get really good deals on them if you don't mind getting last year's style). My top tip if you're away for more than one day of hard city walking is to take two pairs of shoes/boots. I tend to alternate, but even if you just switch into the second pair for the evenings it'll give your feet a bit of a break!

NotMeNoNo · 05/01/2024 18:25

Dint forget you can add a soft insole for more cushioning under your foot

I have these from Moshulu, they have comfortably carried me over 12 miles a day on city breaks

I've got these too and they are great with thick socks as they aren't very "shock absorbing". I love them though.

I have another pair of Moshulu boots (no longer available as they are 14 years old and going strong) with thicker soles. Excellent and highly recommended. They still have similar styles.

Branleuse · 05/01/2024 21:39

I love my Dr martens but it really depends on the style and the shape of your foot, but I find the airware soles very good for shock absorbing, so good for keeping on going compared to other shoes.
Saying that, if I was walking miles and miles, I'd wear my Skechers.

novhange · 05/01/2024 22:43

Don’t all of the boots linked up above get uncomfortable at 40k steps because of the heel?

I can walk for miles but always need to have flat boots or trainers on.

Mirabai · 05/01/2024 23:32

Legero

OneMorePlant · 06/01/2024 07:01

For those suggesting Dr Martens, they did a give away with unique boots supporting everything "queer" and one of them had a depiction of a young woman with "top surgery" scars.

I was so disgusted by it I threw out my Dr Martens from the 90's and a newer pair.

If you don't care about this, you do you, but if you don't want to support any company that supports this child abusing, homophobic and misogynistic movement avoid Dr Martens from now on.

Greenly3 · 06/01/2024 07:04

Best walking boots I’ve ever had that are Lightweight , have never rubbed once and I’ve walked miles and miles in them and they are Skechers - mountain kiss suede padded boot currently on sale at qvc for £49-92 I’ve got 4 pairs of their boots now and I only started walking in may last year. Highly recommend them. I wear them without socks too.

swapcicles · 06/01/2024 07:23

Walking socks will massively help too, they have padding in the right place and made of stuff like merino wool which will be much better than a 100% cotton sock that gets wet and uncomfortable after a few miles.
If you can go somewhere to try them on it's much better as you'll get advice as well as trying on as many as you need without the hassle of ordering and returning if no good.
Independent shoe or possibly outdoor shops will be your best bet. 😊

Fly London. I did 30,000 steps in one day in mine. No pain or soreness at all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 06/01/2024 10:41

Having walked twenty miles around London earlier this week, I fear that my Seasalt ones don't have enough cushioning for such antics. Can anybody recommend an insole, please? Otherwise, I'll have to plan for trainers next time, as I could hardly move the next day!

Mirabai · 06/01/2024 12:51

The best cushioned soles I have found are Legero, Rieker and Ara.

Sorel are also good but bulky.
