Mulberry bags - recommendations please

I’ve been toying with the idea of getting a Mulberry bag for some time now.
Size wise I tend to flip between a large bag and a small crossbody bag.
I feel the Bayswater would be a good investment, but also like the Amberley.
For those who have/had Mulberry, are they worth it? I would ideally like a staple bag that will last a few years not just something “in” right now.

Not a fan of Mulberry bags but I do have the Amberley as it was the only cross body bag I could find in the colour I wanted (grey).

It is a lovely bag. Sits really nicely and holds a fair bit inside.

Love a mulberry and have a few.

The Anthony is a good classic cross body bag

They last ages and ages. Well worth it

I adore Mulberry bags. I like that they are understated and not obviously blingy, they're classy. The colours are gorgeous and the leather is beautiful. They are classic bags that won't obviously date.

I have a Bayswater which I use for work and two Alexa mini crossbody bags for when I don't need to carry as much. All mine are in bright colours, because in bags that's my thing. No boring tan or black for me!

I'd definitely recommend the brand, and if you can snaffle one in the sales all the better.

Thanks everyone.
I like the oxblood one in the Bayswater and the Alexa, or the pink rose in the Amberley.

@DramaAlpaca is the Alexa mini big enough? I saw it online but it looked like you would only fit a very small purse and phone in. So I was leaning towards the bigger Alexa which is obviously more expensive

Mulberry’s are worth it as they are very well made and the leather quality is amazing. I have several and they withstand a fair amount of use and remain pristine. My only caution is the bigger bags can be a little heavy which relates to the robust leather they use.

Isabelle70 · 29/12/2023 21:04

I have the Bayswater but I haven't used it for about 3 years as I can only hand hold or crook of the arm and it is quite heavy before you put anything in it.
For crossbody I would go for a Darley, Lily, Amberley or mini Alexa.
I have had 2 regular Alexa's and I sold them as I found them too slouchy and it was difficult to route around finding items.

BuntyCollocks · 29/12/2023 22:32

I am building quite the collection. I have a small zipped Bayswater - as someone else said, heavy without anything in it. A regular Anthony - love it. A mini Alexa - I can get glasses, a purse and my phone in it but it is definitely not a bag for much more. A regular Alexa I’ve just bought - she is perfect for travelling I think! Speak with one of the outlets - my regular Alexa I just bought was £585. They will do online payments and post out to you free of charge. You are limited by what’s in stock though.

DramaAlpaca · 30/12/2023 04:11

@Thelifeofawife yes, the Alexa Mini doesn't hold much, literally a phone and a purse and not much else, unfortunately. The bigger Alexa is on my wish list.

Nothingyig · 30/12/2023 04:14

I used the bayswater for years but aren’t they a bit out of fashion now? Like a bit mumsy? They are definitely less cool than they were a decade ago, so if you buy one now I’m not sure it will be a great investment / forever bag.

Thelifeofawife · 30/12/2023 10:36

Thanks for all of the input, really helpful!
I’ve decided I’ll go for a crossbody with the Bayswater being so heavy. I would use a crossbody more anyway.
I have narrowed it down to Lilly and Darley. I really like the mini Alexa but they don’t have it in the colour I want. That said, I think I’ll take @BuntyCollocks (love the name BTW!) advice and try the outlet first.

@DramaAlpaca Ignore me, I was getting the mini Alexa confused with the mini Lilly. The mini Alexa looks more than big enough, I saw it in Selfridges recently

I have about a dozen!

The Bayswater is heavy so take that into account.

The quality is nowhere near what it was sadly and I rarely use the last one I bought. I have a gorgeous black leather one from the 1970s that looks new despite its age. My Alexa went in the bin after 2 years as it looked dreadfully shabby.

Buy in the sales or outlets and if you plan on using daily then expect it to last a few years max.

Isabelle70 · 30/12/2023 11:04

Have a look on the Totally Addicted to Mulberry! Page on fb as they have been photos in the last week of what's in the outlets. You can also do WhatsApp orders with them.
My Dd would like the mini Alexa in chestnut.

NewDogOwner · 30/12/2023 12:29

I have a red Alexa. It's perfect as an every day bag. It goes with everything and can be worn cross body or by the handle for different looks. Very capacious and good as a stylish ' mum' bag.

RedPandaFluff · 30/12/2023 15:03

Have you had a look at the Iris, @Thelifeofawife? They come in different sizes and can be handle-carried or worn cross-body. It's a pretty versatile bag.

Thelifeofawife · 01/01/2024 21:56

Hi everyone, thanks so much for your input!
Just thought I’d give a quick update that I have made my purchase - I went for the Amberley as I managed to get it in oxblood.

I actually thought I would end up with the Lilly but when I saw it IRL the chain was thinner than I’m used to, which is a real shame as I love it otherwise.

A nice way to see in the new year!

There was one in Istanbul market selling fake Mulberry with the logo upside down but my favourite was the stall in Ephesus with a big sign stating “Genuine Fake Rolexes” I have a photo somewhere!
