I can’t join you as I've already done this but would highly recommend it. The money and time I’ve saved has made a huge difference and I have lovely nails now. Not eye catching, but healthy and strong.

How long have you not been having them done?

I stopped having mine done a year ago as they has begun splitting and breaking, I suspect due to all the filing off of the acrylic that was being done. It's taken a long time for them to grow back nice and strong. I keep them short but if I want to paint them I use a base coat and a top coat as well.

I stopped using polish a couple of years ago. I realised it wasn't the polish that was doing the damage it was the remover that made them weak and brittle. Even getting gel nails to lengthen the time between using the acetone wasn't long enough to recover. I said I would get gels once or twice a year for special occasions and to tbh I didn't even do that. I've saved loads of money, load of time and no-one has really noticed. I still give them a nice shape, a quick buff and some oil to keep the cuticles clean and tidy.

Acetone doesn’t damage nails. It temporarily dries them but doesn’t damage them. It’s more likely the gel wearing and the application/removal that causes any damage.

OP, I’ve posted before about her but I recommend checking out The Salon Life on YouTube. (Not affiliated with her - just her advice saved my nails and a lot of what she recommends is cheap and easy). She has loads of videos on getting natural nails healthy, including post acrylic care. I stopped getting gel polish and BIAB because it wrecked my nails and now they’re naturally stronger and don’t peel anymore like they always used to.

Another recommendation for The Salon Life on youtube for straight talking, simple and easy to implement advice.
