If you have salt and pepper hair... what colour highlights/lowlights?

My hair is boring.
Having had my long hair cut off into the pixie from hell, I am growing it back and am currently inbetween 'bad mullet' and ' Mum cut my hair with a pudding basin'

There is nothing I can do except grow, tiny trims and wait. BUT it's also salt and pepper... looked quite striking when it was nearly waist length...now I just look OLD. In sunlight, the front and some of the top is silver but the underneath is still brown and I feel rubbish.

I'm a bit scared to go blonde (I'm quite sallow skinned) and it hasn't been coloured for 7 years but I need to do something!!!

Any suggestions, pics... anything!

Could you go a rich/chestnut brown maybe? Seems like that might suit your skin tone better than blonde (and possibly more youthful). I sympathise re growing out a misguided short crop…. It looks in lovely condition FWIW!

My hair colour is similar to yours, my hairdresser says women pay good money to have hair like ours. I get complimented often on my colouring but if you don't like it, go for highlights.

I had the same colour as the underneath hair, to blend the greys a bit, used the grey as a highlight, and had a warm chestnut to brighten it up. That worked well and grew out well (as is always inevitable because I am not good at keeping it up).
