winter hat for big head

I have a big head and lots of hair. Most hats are too tight when I try them on. Can anyone recommend one please?

If you’re female, try a man’s hat.

I can confidently say that beanies from Toogood are enormous - though this may be more than you are intending to pay. They have one left but this year’s version may be too short for you.

I bought the one in the photo below years ago - aiming for crunchy warmth and cutting edge chic; but it’s so huge it slides down over my eyes and I look ridiculous. But if you could find it on any pre-owned site it might be perfect. (Very thick, luxurious and super warm.)

Uniqlo cashmere beanies are unisex and fit my massive head.

If you want to glam it up a bit, Barbour do a fake fur, cossack style hat in large size. It's fabulously warm for trips out on bitter days.

If you want something more structured than a beanie, have a look at Tilley hats. They come in measured sizes.

@Derbybound2022 My son and I and brothers have exactly this problem
It’s probably the shape of your head that’s partly the issue- an oval head ( as seen from top) means hats often pinch at the forehead
Especially helmets ( Riding hats/ motorcycle helmets) or stiffer hats.

I need an XL hat but there are gaps up the sides ( if riding hat)
Lucky are those with small round heads like a pea 😂!

Make one? Hats don’t require all that much wool and a basic one is quite good as a first knitting project. Use a thicker wool and it’ll take a few hours in front of the tv to finish it. And you can make whatever size you need.
