Moisturiser recommendation

43, skin has changed over the past 12/18 months and become a lot drier.
I need a good, rich moisturising cream that will get rid of the tightness on my face.
I've tried lots of different creams over the past few months and once they dry, I feel an uncomfortable tightness in my skin.
I've tried M&S Apothcary, L'Oreal with Hyularonic Acid, Garnier even Lacura Caviar but all give the same result. Now got loads of half used tubs in the bathroom.
As a last ditch I've been using Superdrug's version of E45 for very dry skin but my skin still feels tight! Aargh!

I Don't drink or smoke, drink plenty of water and eat a good varied diet.

Any recommendations?

Have you tried a face oil? Sukin's Rosehip Oil is very good.

seenisambol · 23/12/2023 17:57

I love Weleda Skin Food but it's a bit of a marmite product. It's really thick and greasy so it feels like it sits on your skin rather than "sinks in" which I love (although my partner hates it). It might help with the tightness feeling.

Sandybeachbums · 23/12/2023 17:58

I've avoided oils so far as I don't like the feeling of oil on my skin.
Will google that though. Thank you Smile

Aveeno do a good face cream.

Thank you. I've used that before and really didn't like it. Lovely smell but didn't like how it sits on the skin and my hair kept getting stuck to my face!

Possibly stupid question, but have you have tried layering them? I don't think any one thick cream out there would be enough for my dry skin but 3-4 layers usually keeps me going for a full day (in order of the lightest texture closer to your skin). If you fancy trying an oil, that would go on just before the last, thickest layer.

I was in you're situation. Went through pots of stuff, not to mention £££. The only thing that has worked for me is Epiderm. It's not a pretty bottle and it's doesn't claim all sorts of fancy stuff but my god it works!
I use it at night as it's quite greasy under makeup, although I have used it that way.
Daytime I'm using no 7 protect and perfect night cream. I've found that works for a while.
Epiderm is also great for removing makeup

I still rate the old fashioned blue Nivea. I swear it's just the same as creme de la mer with a different fragrance

MaloneMeadow · 23/12/2023 19:50

Avène Cicalfate! My skin is very dry and it has worked wonders for me. Amazing quality and price. Incredibly rich and makes my skin feel so hydrated, love it!!

Startyabastard · 23/12/2023 19:52

Moo Goo full cream moisturiser:
No petro chemicals or mineral oils or silicones and no alcohol.
Very gentle and almost fragrance free.

onthefarmwithwellies · 23/12/2023 19:59

I've tried loads of face creams over the years from cheap to expensive, my go to is now either garnier ultra lift day cream or Lidl!

BigMamaFratelli · 23/12/2023 20:03

Agree with MaloneMeadow The whole Avene range is lovely. Regularly on offer at boots and Lloyds chemist. I think maybe the hydrance or tolerance creams might suit you

I also really rate the temple spa stuff. The double cream or truffle noir would be good. Not cheap though

pinkpedi · 23/12/2023 20:13

I think my best routine is a cheap glycolic toner every few days, something like pixie. But the past year I've been using the blue Nivea pot.
I love it! A big pot for £6 has lasted almost a year using twice a day.
After years of buying ridiculously expensive face creams etc it's no different and I wouldn't waste my money again.
I've heard that blue pot Nivea is the same ingredients as crème de la mer 🤷‍♀️

pinkpedi · 23/12/2023 20:14

@gocompare just posted the same!

squeekychicken · 23/12/2023 20:16

I switched from Clinique to boots no7 future renew serum and moisturiser and my skins been fab. I'm 41. I also use a vitamin c face oil that dries in quickly so doesn't feel sticky.

Stillwearingskinnies · 23/12/2023 20:17

I've always had normal skin & recently it's become quite dry (am 49).
I've started using Elizabeth Arden hyaluronic acid ceramide capsules and the visible difference moisture cream and it has transformed my skin. It's now so much more hydrated and softer, and my make up goes on better.

MadeOfAllWork · 23/12/2023 20:18

Nivea soft. Cheap as chips and does the job.

theraininspainfallsmainlyontheplane · 23/12/2023 20:21

I'd highly recommend Sunday Riley ICE or Murad Intense Recovery. Both of these are expensive but keep my dry face feeling comfortable all day or night.

Lumene Arctic Hydra Care is good too as a slightly lighter day cream.

Jagorey · 23/12/2023 20:32

@MadeOfAllWork...my favourite too and I get complimented on my skin (not much else though 🤣🤣).

Sandybeachbums · 23/12/2023 20:33

Thanks all for your replies. Going to get googling and try a few to see if they make a difference. I'm sick of wasting money and ending up with tight, uncomfortable skin, even in summer!

Elemis marine cream, watch qvc for further info. Really lovely products

greenacrylicpaint · 23/12/2023 20:39

weleda skin food also comes in a light version.
weleda also have an almond face cream that sinks in well and feels really rich.

Mumaway · 23/12/2023 20:42

Same age and problems, swear by Nivea Cellulair for day and night
