Spa day alone?

Parnter has suggested a spa day as a present for me but wanted to check where and what I would like first. I would love to do this but do people go by themselves or always in a pair or groups? Would I look like a 'billy no mates' by myself while groups of friends are having a laugh? Is it relaxing by yourself?

Of course you can go by yourself, loads of people do! Only you know whether you'd feel uncomfortable, though. Are you one of those people who can't go to a cafe or cinema alone or do you enjoy it?

Mazuslongtoenail · 22/12/2023 21:29

Goodness they’re the best ones. No one to focus on but yourself. Bliss.

Avatartar · 22/12/2023 21:30

Better still get an overnighter and you can really chill

MerryMidwinter · 22/12/2023 21:32

I’ve done this and it was bliss, I do enjoy going with someone but to be alone and do exactly what you want when you want is the ultimate relaxation. I wasn’t the only person on their own and nobody seemed the least bit surprised that I was.

Hope you have a lovely time.

Just book it. I was gifted a spa day last Christmas but was too feeble to book and now its run out. I want to kick myself.

mnahmnah · 22/12/2023 21:35

I always go alone! I take a book to read. Decide what to do when I want to do it. Have some total peace and quiet. I have never felt odd for being there alone.

BernadetteStBernard · 22/12/2023 21:36

I bloody love going alone. I take a book, do whatever I want, negotiate with no-one about moving from one place to another and indulge in some high level people watching- it's great!!

LumiB · 22/12/2023 21:36

Just go noone cares if your on your own. You cna do what you want, when you want for how long you want without having to consider someone else. Its ultimate freedom .

QueSyrahSyrah · 22/12/2023 21:36

Groups of friends having a laugh are a royal pain in the arse in a spa where people are trying to quietly relax. On your own with a good book is the way to go. Enjoy OP.

I love going alone. Nirvana Spa is my favourite if you are anywhere near.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 22/12/2023 21:46

I’ve done them by myself and with family or friends. On some spa days I’ve felt tied to them so I can’t just relax or you feel like you have to join them in eg the jacuzzi or when you both get treatments done. Or you have people who want to chat when you want to be quiet. I do like going on spa days with friends and family but equally I love to chill out just by myself and then just having a day or weekend doing what I want.

SylvieLaufeydottir · 22/12/2023 21:48

Why the heck not? I love it alone. I hit the gym hard and then spend the rest of the day steaming and chilling.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 22/12/2023 21:48

Oh and no one gives you a second glance if you’re by yourself. Years ago I used to go and so did a further, not at the same to the sadly missed Sanctuary spa in Covent Garden. Absolute bliss.

Eukanuba · 22/12/2023 21:51

Have done both groups and alone at spas . If I'm really honest , I much prefer an overnight by myself - you definitely won't look out of place op .

JenniferAllisonPhillipaSue · 22/12/2023 21:51

Interesting thread, DH keeps saying that I should have a spa day but I am really unsure about going on my own too (especially as I've never done one before). I hadn't thought in terms of taking a book to read.

countdowntonap · 22/12/2023 21:53

I’ve been a member at a lovey 5 star spa for 9 years. Members go by themselves daily just to read y the pools and relax. Would you go to the pool by yourself on holiday if your partner didn’t want to? It’s no different.

ruthieness · 22/12/2023 21:57

My tip would be to take a face sheet mask -

and a hair treatment to use in the sauna -

then if you have a paid for treatment choose a body massage - this will give you the best result all round!

and definitely fine to go alone!

I've been to loads on my own, it's bliss just being able to spend whatever time you want doing what you want without having to check with someone else what they want to do.

I'm also a member of a hotel gym with Spa facilities and there's loads of people in there on their own just chilling reading books or doing a few laps. I find the groups of people really irritating as they hog the jacuzzi/steam rooms when I'm wanting to nip in and out as part of my well oiled routine.

I can now quite often be found sat in the Jacuzzi with a complimentary hot chocolate for 5 -10 mins at 6.45am after an early morning gym session before heading home to drag the kids out of bed for school and finished getting ready for work. Sets me up nicely for the whole day!

Thank you all for your responses. It's just wanted I needed to hear. I'm totally fine in my own company and spend my working day alone and I'm quite happy but for some reason I thought spas were more of a group thing when actually I would love a day to myself in peace. I have a 3 year who goes to preschool while I work but no free time to myself with no family for babysitting, so a full day to be pampered and relaxing would be bliss. (Somehow will need to switch my brain though).
