Best decent basics? Black roll neck, white shirt etc

I've had a massive wardrobe cull & chucked out all my faded, bobbled or misshaped clothes and really need to replace some of my regularly worn basics

  1. Fine black roll neck for under dresses, over coloured or patterned skirts & for layering
  2. White shirt to mainly wear with jeans but I also like with leather skirt sometimes
  3. White t shirt. A real nice quality non see through.

I mainly buy secondhand, so not too fussed about it being current or expensive!

My go to is Cos for this. I have also had some success from Mango.

The best rollnecks are COS or ARKET. I've had them for years and don't go baggy and fine enough to wear under anything.
Cheaper versions that are good are the M&S thin thermal roll necks.

Never think to look in Cos, thanks and good shout about Arket I've got a few good bits from them on Vinted recently

Another vote for Cos. Also, they're now out if business but there used to be a company called The White Tshirt Co. They did my all time best white tshirts. I had to wear them as part of a work uniform and they were just great.

Another vote for m &s thin polo thermal tops, and I wear the thick polo one when it's ready cold, just wish they did more colours then black and grey.

Roll necks - Uniqlo mens merino for me.

White shirt - good old M&S

White T shirt - Cos all the way.

ElizabethVonArnim · 19/12/2023 21:40

I was going to say Uniqlo for white shirts, too.

Another vote for Cos. I also have Levi's turtlenecks and they are great, they often have 50% off and all sizes are usually available.

John Lewis used to be good but I bought 3 t-shirts from them last year and they look really bad already (no tumble dry).

DonnaGiovanna · 15/01/2025 10:46

Came on to say Cos and Uniqlo, M&S worth a browse too, but everyone git there first.
