Hi! My eyes are brown (photos added - sunlight vs normal light).

I was considering trying coloured contact lenses to get them to look like the sunlight shade more often. Bad idea? I’m not sure what the upkeep is like or if lenses irritate the eye, or if they just look really fake in real life…

alternatively is there anything I can do with makeup to flatter/bring my eye colour out more?

I tried coloured contacts to bring out the green in my blue-green eyes. They actually looked quite weird. I think we all suit our natural colouring the best. I would enhance your natural colour with the clothes and / or makeup you wear. The right shades will definitely makes your eye colour pop. Try Colour Me Beautiful for advice on this - it really works.

Your eyes are a lovely colour, btw!

Your eyes are a lovely colour in both pictures. I would just experiment with makeup to enhance them even more.

I've never seen coloured contacts that look truly natural. You can usually tell.

I used to wear different colours and shapes when I was younger, but my eyes are too dry now. I didn't particularly want them to look natural.
But one problem was that they weren't gas permeable and so vascularisation was a danger, if I wore them for too many days.

Try coloured eyeliner/mascara

First I think you have lovely coloured eyes to start with.

But just some thoughts if you are seriously thinking about buying some.

Only buy them from a optician not those shops/online who sell them, you will need to have a proper check to get the correct size etc. If you have not worn lenses before you will need to be confident of handling them getting them in/out (many people struggle with this), your optician will show you how. Also cleaning of lenses and factoring in the cost of solutions which is expensive. Being aware of you may not for many reasons get away with wearing them, dry eyes, irritation, not wearing them for swimming or in the shower as this can cause problems if water gets between your eye and the lens.

I am a lens wearer of 40+ years and back in the day tried coloured lenses and I looked like an alien! I really think most of them look too false but thats my opinion. I would really if they are just for cosmetic reasons play around with make up and the like first.

But if you do go ahead, hygiene hygiene hygiene is so important!

You have gorgeous eyes OP

Mascara definitely brings out the best in them

Have you tried Desio Color Contact Lenses , they are amazing and very natural!! the new collection is very refined and dark and it can give the natural look that you are looking for, try Eternal Brown or Forever Green. I wanted to archived the same look as you and I found this brand and now I keep come back to it to try new colors. Their lens are very comfortable.

I tried coloured lenses and they looked ridiculous. Threw off my natural colouring even though it was just green on green. Didn’t even leave the bathroom wearing them. I agree with the other posters, you can enhance your eye colour with clothes and make up.
