What looks good with black?

I have gradually realised that black next to my face now looks somewhat harsh - having always thought of myself as a "winter" colouring, I now wonder if I am summer, if you care about that sort of thing! So I have a lot of black clothes, but somehow I only wear them with white, or maybe gray! I possibly hear Trinny and Susannah in my head from years ago, or maybe brighter colours just feel too eighties- but I want to find something to wear so I can keep wearing 50% of my clothes!
Today I'm wearing a black shirt with pink roses which seems to work okay, although I'm not certain! Tomorrow I want to wear a black sparkly v neck jumper (Christmas jumper day at work), and I know with a black roll neck under I will look slightly dead- what might look nice?! Please help! I am gradually trying to replace black basics with navy (but then don't get me started on shoes!). Does anyone else feel like this? Is it just my age? (52!). Thank you for any thoughts!

Black with camel looks good imo. Could you add layers ie black turtle neck with camel sleeveless sweater or cord shirt? Or a black sweater with a cream/camel colour t shirt or funnel neck under. Also khaki works well with black and the right navy blue too. You could search on Pinterest for black capsule wardrobe ideas. Accessories can also warm up black - gold earrings, gold necklace and if you wear glasses - tortoiseshell frames soften things up.

Figure out if you suit softer, muted colours, or bold bright colours. When I let my grey hair grow out I had to change my clothing colours, but I still don't do many jewel tone brights.

So if you like blue, which goes well with black, find a top/jumper in a cobalt blue, and a muted softer blue and see what suits you best. You just have to experiment. Good luck.

Although I also remember the T&S rule, for me black trousers with coloured tops always felt very star trek. I don't think this when i see other people wearing the combo, so it's just a weird notion, and lots of things look good with black. I've recently got into wearing little cotton scarves. If you can find some in colours that suit you better then it might help you get more wear out of your black tops. Otherwise, can you do a wardrobe clear out and hit the Christmas sales?

I’m a summer. Camel def. Just add loads of make up 😂

@Charlieradioalphapapa , sadly, as @FizzyLaser suggests, I look worse in camel than in black! I can't do cream/beige or khaki, and all the jewellery I wear is silver. I think @mdinbc is right, I need to find the right shade of blue or maybe green, but I don't have a great eye for colour! And @dudsville , now I will think Star Trek and T and S! I'll be condemned to waiter/penguin forever! Thank you though for all your thoughts, much appreciated.

I think T&S said never wear black with colour. IMO black looks best with neutrals, so cream, white, taupe, grey. I also like black with brown.

Laughing so much at Star Trek

I love greens esp rich emerald ones, teal is lovely as are the berry colours. I’m the opposite in that I rarely wear black and if I do it’s usually black leather trousers or a leather skirt
