This week I entered the Fourth Life Stage of Nightdresses

Stage 1 - Cute
Stage 2 - Sexy
Stage 3 - Cool
Stage 4 - Warm
Stage 5 - Flannel

It's basically a long t shirt in brushed cotton. It has shoulders. And short sleeves. Because whereas at one stage I'd throw the duvet off sweating in a strappy cotton slip, now I'm under a double duvet, shivering.

The march of time.

That's quite similar to my Pyjama Scale, except mine is purely temperature based. I'm in a 3 at the moment. I had to give my fleecy 5s to the kids because now that I'm perimenopausal, they make me a)far too bloody hot and b)really itchy.

Well i totally bipassed stages 1 to 3 and have always been at stage 4 or 5. Saved myself a lot of cold sleepless nights as I am the world's coldest person . My poor husband has never had the joy of the sexy stage sadly ! I go to bed looking like I am about to summit Everest.

I went from stage 1 at about 14/15 to naked. I’m in my 40s now and still sleep naked. I am really not comfy sleeping in anything. The only exception being knickers on the first few days of a heavy period.

This is me, too.

Buyt I do occasionally wonder if there won't come a stage where sleeping naked seems wrong, or too cold, or too risky in case I have a medical emergency in the night

Tee he, I’ve been at Stage 4 for a while except in the summer, much to DH’s disappointment. I tend to wear pajamas though and have a hot water bottle. 😂

TBF I have recently acquired the dressing gown of doom....

Maybe I am more prepared for a naked-till-i-die approach to sleeping, than I thought 😂

I have been eyeing the Dressing Gown of Doom for a while ... Will it be velvet, towelling, jersey ... ?

Surely nobody makes stage 5. By the time you are that age you are far too hot at night.

I agree, I could never have warm nightwear. I tried it, it was too hot. I bypassed sexy, and don't think I was ever cool. I slept nude for decades (started as a child when I would wake up just enough in my seep and take off the night dress!), but suddenly this year I find I like a nightdress or pjs.

Im 58 and in the last few weeks have gone form Stage 0 ie naked to Stage five

i Love the flannel sheets so much and my arms were getting cold so got a flannel nightshirt from George. O bought another one yesterday from Sainsburys. I like the longer nightshirt length than the pyjama top length as I dont like bottoms in bed

I'm even further down the line - stage 6 - fleece !!

I'm thinking that OP may have come out the other side...

I'm torn between sleeping naked for the sake of any medical emergency, and tee shirt and knickers in case of fire.

I do rather fancy one of those long Victorian nighties that you used to be able to get from Past Times

I don't think I've worn a nightie since I was at ten, always end up bunched up round my armpits,maybe I fidget too much.
I just wear PJ's now, would say they have always been functional rather than sexy though 😬

Meh. I oscillated between stage 4 and naked in my early 30s. You’ll be fine.

That's right @ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea , you can get angora night tops. So very cuddly. Or would that put me at level 4?
