How should jeans fit?

Bought about 8 pairs of jeans from FatFace. Their shorter length is great for me. However, I’ve bought my usual size and they seem slightly loose. I’m worried once I’ve worn them for a while they’ll loosen and look silly. Do you buy jeans slightly tight and assume they’ll give a bit? Also, which cut? I am pear shaped and short.

I hate anything too tight round my waist so would always buy them to fit. Some jeans do ‘grow’, usually when the cotton content is low and the elastane higher. You can sometimes deal with that with a belt if it’s mainly the waist. But if you are already feeling dubious they may not be the jeans for you.

Pear shapes generally suit anything that isn’t skinny, to balance out the pear. But none of us can be reduced to one single shape so that’s very broad guidance and it also depends on personal preference.

I buy as tight as l can possibly get on, otherwise they are too loose after a few wears.

I went with the size down. Initially a bit snug but wore in.

I haven't found that jeans loosen and change. They should - like all trousers - fit comfortably when you first try them, sitting, moving, squatting and standing. They do loosen a bit when you're wearing them on the second or third time, but that resets again after a wash and is only about the feel, not a visible change.

Having said that, sizes are crazy, even where they purport to be width, length. Levis even in the same style don't fit the same, neither in the same colour nor across colours.

Which cut? Try different cuts and see how you feel about how you look in them.
