Risks buying on ebay

I’ve seen a Mulberry bag I like on eBay. It’s BNWT, about half the price of new. It come with eBay authenticity guarantee. I’m trying to work out what the risks are. Presumably the guarantee covers me if it’s fake. What else can go wrong? Looks to be private seller with lots of 5 star reviews.

Generally I’d say if something looks too good to be true then it most likely is. But I’m a sole trader who sells on eBay and their protections for both buyers and sellers are very good. For high value items like hand bags and trainers the seller has to post it to their verification centre first, who then assess it and post it on to the buyer once it’s found to be genuine. I assume if they see fakes they then refund you and destroy the item, I’m not sure they’d send a fake back to the seller? I wouldn’t touch Vinted or Depop with a barge pole for something so expensive but I think in this instance I’d feel confident to go ahead. I don’t sell luxury goods, but I have bought a Mulberry on eBay before they bought the verification centre in so I understand your worries. I think people’s feedback counts for a lot, as do listings with lots of pictures. You can generally tell dodgy sellers by their profiles imo.

Thanks definitely won’t be buying Mulberry on Vinted, I’ve done well there with Monsoon and Hobbs dresses, but only ever risk small amounts.

looking at it she’d get less if she sold through an intermediary like Handbag Clinic. It’s also been for sale a while which I feel isn’t a great sign but I might be wrong
