Recommend me a serum I've gone down a rabbit hole!

My skin is very dry/dehydrated and I think I could benefit for a serum at night before my moisturiser.
I need something that is going to help with my lined, wrinkly old skin. Something that's nourishing as I have to use an emollient as a moisturiser, my skin is so dry.
I've tried No 7 etc but it doesn't seem to do anything for me.
I use The Inkey List HA during the day.
My budget isn't huge...£30. Maybe I'm asking too much?
Any ideas?

Have you thought about giving a face oi a go? Rose hip etc! My skin has really enjoyed face oil now I’m post 40 and helps with dehydration.

@Kyogo67 thanks, I hadn't heard of them. In what way did it make a difference to your skin?

Botanics, the ordinary, Amazon, I’ve had several oils in kits and things and generally find my skin likes any of them. It hated face oils when I was younger and less dehydrated.

I put it on at night and my skin feels so much more soft and moisturised in the morning. Can also wear with moisturiser under make up for a nice glow.
It has improved my skin quality and fine lines and marks are less noticeable.
It's all natural and smells good and you can refill your bottle for a discounted price.

I've just started using Clarins blue orchid face treatment oil, that I think I got in last years beauty advent calendar. It's lovely and I only use a couple 8f drops so it lasts ages.

If you're on a budget look at sample sizes on ebay. Usually works out cheaper per ml than buying the full size one.

Sali hughes facial oil is great but try the skin rocks app by caroline hirons for specific recommendations, you can put skin type, age, needs and itll give you loads of suggestions and rate their suitability for you

Slightly over budget but not by much, it’s brilliant stuff https://www.amazon.co.uk/Caudalie-Vinoperfect-Radiance-Complexion-Correcting/dp/B001P7AWXC

Sorry I just see re budget. Mine is completely beyond that. (€ prices - €98 for 100 ml, maybe €70+ for €50. I get it as birthday / Christmas gifts!)

I was going to recommend this. I am in my 60s with very dry skin.
I use their moisturiser first and then press 2 or 3 drops into my skin. Massage it in.
It's cheapest on Amazon, but also available in Holland and Barrett

JellicleCat · 13/12/2023 17:40

I've recently tried the Simple Vitamin C Serum. It seems to have made my skin softer. I usually react to any moisturiser and haven't to this. There are other serums in the range too which I might try and it's cheap 😀

Deathraystare · 13/12/2023 19:39

@JellicleCat @twiddlingthumbs69

Yes! The simple one is lovely. I normally cannot use anything Vitamin C as it dries my skin up but this serum is lovely, lovely lovely!

I swear by granactive retinoid 2% in squalane- it’s slightly different to retinol so it doesn’t cause any irritation at all and it feels like my face has been totally resurfaced. It’s about £8 from The Ordinary.

I follow it up with hyaluronic acid serum (also about £8 from the Ordinary).

This is my favourite, smells divine too
