Personally I prefer the belted one but I imagine it’ll depend on your style, shape, whether you want to wear it open or closed etc. Have you got similar styles/can you try on similar styles and see what suits you better?

heartbroken40 · 12/12/2023 13:43

Thanks I actually prefer the belted too but I love the fact the other one is cashmere. Think I'll go for the belted and see how it fits (I can always return it). Thanks!

I hate belted ones. Not because of how they look ( although if you are not waif thin, they will make you look bulcky): I have had a few, and I have lost the belt.
Also, cashmere is a safer bet

heartbroken40 · 14/12/2023 07:58

@Possiblynotever I ordered the belted one and you are right! Doesn't look good. I'm quite slim and they really don't flatter my figure. Returning it today and buying something else (not sure whether the cashmere one but definitely NOT a belted one). Thanks a lot!

Belted coats are a lie! They make everyone over a size 6 look like they're wearing their nan's dressing gown.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 14/12/2023 08:22

Belted one is much nicer. However see how it fit and works without buttons when you try it on.

Dotcheck · 14/12/2023 09:05

First one. You can always wear an actual belt with it to mix it up

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 14/12/2023 09:05

A camel coat is a coat made from camel hair ( usually the tummy hair)

It’s not cashmere, or wool it’s camel.

Only one of the coats suggested has camel hair in it from what l can see. I mean pure virgin wool isn’t camel. Nor is cashmere.

KeepSmiling89 · 14/12/2023 09:15

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow I thought a camel coat just referred to the colour???

In clothing/retail terms, 'camel' is taken to refer to the colour

I've got a gorgeous wool camel coat and love it- definitely without belt (& I say that as someone who loves a belted dress or nipped in waist normally) How about one of these:

BOSS Catara Wool and Cashmere Tailored Coat, Medium Beige at John Lewis & Partners

Wool Maxi City Coat | Camel – Jigsaw (jigsaw-online.com)

That BOSS one looks like good value

Camel coat =🐪hair

Floisme · 14/12/2023 09:44

In terms of appearance, I'd say the first (Max Mara) one although I'd be wary of 100% cashmere in a coat - possibly for no good reason but I'd question how hard wearing it would be so I'd check that out first.

I like the look of the Jigsaw one too but I can't see what it's made of, which always makes me suspicious (apologies if the info's there and I've missed it). There also only appears to be a single button fastening which I think is pretty well useless on a winter coat.

Boss one is nice if you want knee length but personally I'd go for longer at the moment.

Oh, come off it. Yes, the original camel coats were camel hair (post WW1 when traditional fabrics were in short supply) but the use of the word camel to mean the colour predates that, so the two have always been conflated.

CallmeSand · 14/12/2023 11:08

That first one looks to me like a WW 2 coat , sorry. I personally don't like the wrap coat as it is so short.

CointreauVersial · 14/12/2023 11:18

I'm sure the OP will be along in a minute to confirm whether she meant a "camel-coloured" coat, or a coat specifically "made from the hair of a camel". I'll bet it was the first one.

Re: the Coggles coat I have a couple of belted coats and never actually close the belts, so it wouldn't be a great selling point to me. I also think this particular one is an awful awkward length for a belted coat....but I see you've ordered and discounted it anyway.

I love the Jigsaw one, because it's a great length, looks elegant and classic (and @Floisme it says 100% wool). That's my favourite.

I agree that the Boss one is a bit short, which limits what you can wear it with.

DuploTrain · 14/12/2023 11:27

I prefer the style of the belted coat, but it does look too short. If the model is particularly tall and you’re shorter it might be okay.

heartbroken40 · 14/12/2023 11:27

Hello! I'm OP. I meant camel COLOURED coat, absolutely no interest in camel skin coats (do they actually exist?)

Thanks all, I'll go and try the BOSS one on and also check out more Max Mara (off to Bond Street today)

The Jigsaw one is lovely. I wish they did it in red or purple - love a bright coat. Personally I think that camel (fur or colour!) only really suits dark- or olive-skinned women.

I have one made from llama.

Sususudio · 14/12/2023 13:49

I love both the Max Mara ones. So jealous of people who can wear camel. As an Asian, I just look brown all over. Looks so classy on others though.

hashisucks · 14/12/2023 17:15

I have an 'S Max Mara camel coat and it's very nice (but mine is the belted long wrap style - I often just wear it open). I agree the Jigsaw ones are gorgeous quality but on a petite they are overwhelming. The wool has that nice thick sheen to it (my MM is finer wool but I layer one of their puffer gilets with it). On the high street Hobbs coats are still v good quality and wool. Avoid Reiss as they are overpriced and now have a hefty proportion of polyester.
