What do you wear to do the housework?

I'm fed up of wearing a dressing gown , I don't want to spoil my day clothes and I don't want to wear old clothes

What should I buy that isn't depressing and unglamorous but taht I don't want to keep for outside wear?

fryalot · 14/03/2008 14:58

Ilovenutella · 14/03/2008 15:03

have been known the scrub the bathroom completely rudey-nudey....... Just be careful with the loofah!

CatIsSleepy · 14/03/2008 15:04

LOL squonk was thinking of something more like this, but your outfit is much cuter...

fryalot · 14/03/2008 15:05

that one you linked to is what I use when I have to go in dd1's room

Swedes · 14/03/2008 15:12

Anna - I didn't have you down as a house coat person. Do you sometimes nip out for a loaf or a packet of Gauloises in your housecoat too?

fryalot · 14/03/2008 15:14

swedes: this is Anna

Anna8888 · 14/03/2008 15:14

It's a towelling bath robe - very necessary in my freezing (heating-less) early morning kitchen....

Floor is clean btw - took off my dress but left on Wolford tights and knee high black boots and put an apron on top

OP posts:
choosyfloosy · 14/03/2008 15:17

Anna, if you are scrubbing the floor you're not going to be cold for long.

choosyfloosy · 14/03/2008 15:18

Blimey, did it really take less than 2 mins to scrub your floor? How much do you pay your cleaner?

EffiePerine · 14/03/2008 15:20

Generally PJs as I do stuff first thing

Isn;t Flylady all strict about wearing shoes and taking housework seriously?

PrincessPeaHead · 14/03/2008 15:20

"wolford tights"

lololololololololol

anna, you need to get out more. actually I think you need a job

either that or a juicy couture tracksuit

Anna8888 · 14/03/2008 15:21

It didn't need scrubbing, only washing (with an e-cloth and Ajax). I've only done kitchen and laundry room (but they were the worst), still got under windows in main rooms plus loos and bathrooms.

Why would you scrub a floor [puzzled]?

I have a very lovely job, PPH - in fact, I was supposed to be at a very lovely meeting this pm only we had to change the date at the last minute

OMG! Er...I wear the same clothes that I put on in the morning to walk the dogs! And then wear for the rest of the day! Doing housework in them gives me the opportunity to sponge off some of the baby sick while I have a cloth handy!

But to clean the toilet I always wear my ballgown!

Swedes · 14/03/2008 15:23

I thought the whole point about e-cloths was that they needed only water and elbow grease to get things clean? An e-cloth does not atone for using unkind to the environment Ajax.

Anna8888 · 14/03/2008 15:26

I have white tiles on the kitchen floor and e-cloth plus Ajax works really well/fast. E-cloth alone doesn't deal with grease at all well IME.

Not very worried about environmental impact of Ajax - my priority is clean... Actually, it's Monsieur Propre - they've stopped selling Ajax on houra.fr for some unfathomable reason...

If the handsome Tesco delivery boy is expected, I usually wear my feather mules and a dash of Ralph Lauren perfume [innocent]

Anna8888 · 14/03/2008 15:35

When I opened the front door to the window cleaner this morning at 7.30 am in my dressing gown, my partner (not normally here at same time as window cleaner) remarked on how intime we were

OP posts:
foofi · 14/03/2008 15:39

I wear whatever I've got on at the time - let's face it, that's normally jeans, but I have been known to be cleaning the loo in a ballgown.

Swedes · 14/03/2008 15:51

I loathe our window cleaner. He is incredibly sexist. I would prefer to pay him not to come.

snowleopard · 14/03/2008 16:03

Anna, given your dilemma about what to wear, I think you just have to accept in a shrugging Gallic way that to do the the housework you must wear just Chanel no 5.

Anna8888 · 14/03/2008 16:08

Oh I like my window cleaner - I like men doing my dirty work
