Do you get your nails done?

innocentdevil77 · 09/12/2023 15:18

Just that. I'm not allowed my nails done for my new job and it sounds so trivial but it really gets me down!

Do you get yours done or do you usually have them natural?

shellac over very short nails, think cut down as far as possible. Usually in a red or rouge noir kind of colour, never sparkly, never any design and I think it looks extremely professional and identical to nail polish, just lasts.

This exactly

CeriB82 · 10/12/2023 13:36

Yes. Every 3 weeks. £32. Been with this girl for 1 year. My previous girl was £15 and came to my house! Such a bargain!

I have BIAB & gel colour. I like block colour, definitely no nail art. Detest it.

HouseofHolbein · 10/12/2023 13:46

Just started again. Keep them pretty short and a single colour. Currently dark purple with some sparkle for Christmas parties. £32 for infills they have suggested every 3 weeks but I may stretch it to 4 tbh I'll see how they go. Might have to be 4 weeks this time due to Christmas and new year opening times.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 10/12/2023 13:53

I have a gel lamp so do them myself.

I'll give them a break and have just clear polish every few weeks though

RaraRachael · 10/12/2023 14:10

I've had mine done (gel) for a wedding or holiday but they didn't last that long for what I paid for them so I won't bother again, Our local nail salon is busy whatever time or day I go past so I guess I'm in the minority.
Maybe it's a generational thing. Tik Tok has passed me by so I think it's the same for getting my nails done.

do you have a link from where you bought yours please if you recommend? also what polishes do you use?

BurbageBrook · 10/12/2023 14:47

I don't bother. Just have them short and natural. It's funny because I've always bothered with everything else. Hair, make up, nice enough clothes. Just never bothered with my nails! I do enjoy an occasional pedicure and gel toenails in the summer however. I always have bare fingernails but I'd never expose bare toenails!

naughtynine · 10/12/2023 14:53

Do my nails myself & keep them pretty short. Often have no polish or just clear

naughtynine · 10/12/2023 14:53

Like a pedicure though

isthismylifenow · 10/12/2023 16:42

I have builder gel on at the moment, because two of my natural nails broke horizontally halfway down my nail. I had not had it done before, but I had to do something to cover them until the breaks grow out.

They are natural colour and short and I quite like them as they are. They feel stronger and do make me feel like I'm a bit better put together. So I will need to do it for around 3 months or so until they grow, and at that point I'll see if I will keep doing it or not.

The one downside is using the UV lamp. I do not like it and my hands felt tender, as in slightly burned after. I have had squamous cells removed from my hands so I might be just ultra sensitive. I will plaster my hands with SPF when I go for a in fill next week.

I do not like the longer acrylic tip type length, I can't have them for work reasons anyway, but I just can't operate with longer nails anyway. I don't know how some manage with the really long pointy ones.

👀 is this a normal UK price or a fairly pricey salon?

I'm not in UK and my first appointment was under 10GBP and in fills 6GBP. This is for builder gel.

My dd sometimes does acrylics with the art work and they are around 15GBP.

I have converted currency but I was just a bit shocked at this price.

I’m not an advertising bot, honest! 😅

I had gels years ago, after 3 sessions my nails were absolutely destroyed.

I think biab has essentially been created to keep the industry going because women were turning away from standard gels in droves. I’m 4 sessions in to biab and all seems well thus far

I’ve just had my BIAB removed and my nails are wrecked. Gels did the same, they’re flaking, splitting and I have bent back, and cracked across, three nails part way down, so painful.
Never, ever again. My nails also have pink longitudinal stripes on them from the filing back.
I’ve learned my lesson now 😢

TheBirdintheCave · 10/12/2023 16:54

I get gel paint as a treat for special occasions like my birthday or before going on holiday :)

GoatsInBoats · 10/12/2023 17:25

I love a proper manicure, with the soaking and cuticle tidying etc, followed by standard polish in whatever colour I fancy. I don't do shellac though, that's knackered my nails before.

How are you keeping your nails from tearing more and catching on clothing etc now?

And can I ask how long you had BIAB on for?

I have it on for the first time to sort out broken nail issues. I really hope I don't have the same problem.

NotmySundaybest · 10/12/2023 17:51

Do you think that natural nails are in?
I have noticed more short nails.

Bertiesmum3 · 10/12/2023 17:53

Yes every 3 weeks because my natural nails are so weak they go like splinters!
I don’t have extensions just the acrylic overlay and infills £27 a time so good value

Lioney · 10/12/2023 18:08

I get my nails done every 3 weeks.

Why did you apply for the job, if its an issue?

HouseofHolbein · 10/12/2023 19:43

@isthismylifenow seems a pretty standard price tbh. It hasn't actually gone up since I had them done pre lockdown oddly.

I find I cant do things without them now… I’m a wheelchair user and the extra length means I can reach stuff I drop on the floor, or reach into the bottom of a full size shopping trolly… my wife says I should just buy a handheld grabber thingy like a normal person, but that is much less fun!

That’s really really cheap. My lady charges £30 for a new set of acrylics, £25 for infills in a single colour. Nail art starts at £5 for something simple (she charges based on the time it takes her to do the art) and gems are charged additionally too. The set I have on at the moment were £45.

I’m on my 4th nail place in over 10 years- prices have gone up in that time but my current place is average price for the area.

I’m using OPi Nail Envy, filing them very short and wearing a plaster on two fingers ☹️
I had BIAB for 3 weeks then a infill on the regrowth (my nails grow very quickly and I hate the gap bit with gels/BIAB), so 6 weeks altogether.

Psychoticbreak · 11/12/2023 06:30

Religiously every three weeks. It is BIAB on my own nail.

SmokeyToo · 11/12/2023 06:50

I had acrylic nails for years when I was younger, because my natural nails were weak and would split at the fingertips. As I've grown older, my natural nails are ridiculously strong, but they are also yellowing and have ridges. So, I wear gel polish on both fingers and toes. 99% of the time, I go for nude or pale pink. But sometimes I'll go fluoro orange or pink in summer, it just depends on my mood at the time. I continue to get them done because it looks after my cuticles etc. and I can be a bit lazy about that, if left to my own devices!
