Do you get your nails done?

Just that. I'm not allowed my nails done for my new job and it sounds so trivial but it really gets me down!

Do you get yours done or do you usually have them natural?

Nothing at all on mine (though if I'm organised I have a buffer at my computer and might give them a quick shine up) .
I'm an HCP so the combination of hand washing / handgel / gloves knackers them and Infection Control prohibits any nail product . I try to keep my right thumbnail with a tiny bit of length to remove the backing from plasters but they break Sad

What do you mean exactly? Not allowed tips or extensions, gels or not allowed them painted?

nachocheese · 09/12/2023 18:17

Yes, I have builder gel and polish once a month, have been having them done just over a year now. It's virtually the only money I spend on myself a month. Just had them done today in fact.

Do you get your nails done?
muddyford · 09/12/2023 18:18

Never. I keep them short and clean, and buffed when I remember.

Tribblesarelovely · 09/12/2023 18:19

Yes, I’ve been having mine done for years. I have them redone every three weeks, and at this time of year it’s reds, plums, all the dark wintery colours. They’re also quite long.

icanlovemebetter · 09/12/2023 18:22

I used to get them done every 3 weeks for over 5 years or so now. But when I moved from SNS to BIAB I noticed my nails would hurt rather badly and I was in a lot of pain. So even though o had a wedding to attend and wanted my nails to look good , I went ahead with natural nails. My nails are more brittle than a glass. So like a pp it's scruffy nails for me for the next 6-8 months so they grow out naturally for a while.

EmmaStone · 09/12/2023 19:18

For holidays and occasions I get a Shellac polish. In between I do them myself with Essie gel Couture (which is just a normal varnish that lasts a week). I always keep them short and don't have any glitters or decorations.

jay55 · 09/12/2023 19:25

No. I've had one manicure in my life and it wasn't a good experience, so I never tried again.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 09/12/2023 21:19

I do my own with regular polish, usually on a Sunday night and a Wednesday night. Right now they are a racing green. I keep them short and square-ish.

EarlofShrewsbury · 09/12/2023 21:28

I'm 40 and I've had mine done twice.

Once when I was a bridesmaid
Once when I was a bride.

I loved the way they looked but I'm autistic and my nervous stim is to scratch my eyebrow or my neck just under my ear and you can't scratch properly with nails.

I hated the sensation so I can't wear nails. Both times I bit them off the day after the wedding.

Toesaresoweird · 09/12/2023 21:30

I had them done once back in July. I nearly pulled my nails off because they were long, think car door handles, my god the pain. DH made a joke about how you'd wipe your bum with long nails, do you have to make loo roll pom poms and how would you hold the loo roll? The first day they were on I had bad nail pain.

I had the false ones removed and my nails are near enough back to normal. It took months. They caused so much damage. Never again. I stick to nail varnish now.

Bigstones · 09/12/2023 21:33

I am a devotee of the long tacky acrylics. I hate my hands without them.

Flibbertigibbettytoes · 09/12/2023 21:38

I don't like the look of the long gel ones so I don't have them done. I have had them manicured (not gel) and they do look smarter than when I shape them myself but not nice enough to be worth £40 on a regular basis

WmFnKdSg1234 · 09/12/2023 21:43

After being prohibited from having nail varnish while working in the NHS, I am really enjoying having gel nails. I prefer short nails so that I am not struggling to do things.

I am intrigued by nail wrapping though...

OnlyCorrect · 09/12/2023 21:43

No, because I dislike the look on others (not that I would make it known as it's none of my business). But glad the trend's so dead around here people aren't even doing it for party season. It was heading out anyway when the news about gel allergies really killed it - several now defunct nail salons on my high st.

SemperIdem · 09/12/2023 21:50

I get Biab, sometimes a plain colour over the top. I like nail designs on other women but they’re not for me personally.

Assume you work as a HCP or in the food industry in some capacity, op?

CarolinaInTheMorning · 09/12/2023 21:55

Yes. I get my nails done regularly. They are short and natural, but I do often wear polish. Right now they are bright red for Christmas.

And as I live in a warm climate, and wear sandals almost all year round, I also get periodic pedicures.

Pocketfullofdogtreats · 09/12/2023 22:00

No. I think really unnatural nails look daft. I might put a bit of gold sparkly polish on occasionally, but not often, and that's only because DD bought me the bottle.

RantyAnty · 09/12/2023 22:08

There must be a huge BIAb advertising drive right now as I'm seeing posts about it all over

whatchagonnado · 09/12/2023 22:10

No, never. I prefer them natural

yikesanotherbooboo · 09/12/2023 22:13

I don't get my fingernails done. It looks good for a special occasion but imo not for an everyday active life. I feel differently re toenails.

SkaneTos · 09/12/2023 22:14

No. My job does not allow it, for hygienic reasons.
I would probably not get them done, anyway.

Doggymummar · 09/12/2023 22:15

Yes. I got my Christmas nails today they are fab.

Hollyhead · 09/12/2023 22:18

No, I’d rather put the money in savings/pension.

I’m not an advertising bot, honest! 😅

I had gels years ago, after 3 sessions my nails were absolutely destroyed.

I think biab has essentially been created to keep the industry going because women were turning away from standard gels in droves. I’m 4 sessions in to biab and all seems well thus far
