What do you wear to work Christmas do if you don’t wear dresses?

I’ve got my work do coming up and I’ve no idea what to wear. I don’t wear dresses or like sparkly stuff. I love the wide legged suit look but kind of that for work (teacher). Any slightly fancier ones around? I’ve literally got nothing to wear. The do not doing to be overly fancy but looking scruffy is not an option either.

I’m 5.7 and a size 16 (14 on top).

What could I wear?

In the past Ive worn wide leg velvet trousers or cigarette style velvet trousers and a silk shirt or silk t-shirt style top. I always wear flat shoes and have a pair of Dune edris ( not sure if that style is still available ) in leopard and black suede. I don't like ballet pumps but that's just personal choice.

M&S This is not too shiny but looks like evening wear . Dark (velvet) blazer if you want to cover your arms.

What you normally wear and feel confident in but in luxe impractical fabrics. Velvet trousers, silk top.

I think I'm going to go full Elder Emo and wear leather skinnies, heeled boots, band tshirt and fitted black blazer, and big hair and jewellery.

Also a teacher, my work do is tonight. Other than dresses, people seem to be planning jeans and sparkly tops. I am wearing Hush harems, converse and a jumper because I wear neither dresses nor sparkly and don't care about scruffy, they can't impose a dress code in a crap restaurant.

Thank you everyone. Some nice ideas there. Will go hunting for a nicer suit. Finances won’t stretch to the Cos one which I love but there will be similar around.

Both Zara & M&S have great cotton velvet suits. The Zara one is particularly flattering and looks designer (I wore it to a v posh event last night and was asked if it was Bella Freud!)
