Smart casual dress code for evening event

Hi All
I’m going to a work event next week and the dress code is ‘smart casual’. It’s in the evening and will be food (buffet) with drinks. Sector is academia so not too formal for usual workwear.
Any pointers on what is suitable to wear? At the moment I’m planning silk blouse, needle cord slim trousers (look a bit like velvety slim jeans) and suede ankle boots with a slight heel. Ought I be wearing a dress / jacket instead do you think?

It’s the type of place where they do have more formal dinners, so needs to be a bit more casual than this.

"Smart casual" just means no jeans, trainers or scruffy t-shirts. Your outfit is fine.

Your outfit sounds perfect. I'd want a jacket or smart knit for warmth (unless you're wearing a gown and think that will be enough?)
