Lash lift disappointment

NigelHarmansNewWife · 07/12/2023 07:37

I know what I should do, but I don't want to rock the boat. I had my third lash lift of the year earlier in the week, 3 months since the last one. The person who did it is a professional beautician and also an acquaintance/friend. The problem is there is no lift or curl. They basically are straight out. There was more natural curl before the lift which seems to have just straightened them! When I first had it done earlier in the year I was delighted - I have long, dark lashes naturally and my eyes look so much prettier (imho!) with curled lashes. Plus no need for eyelash curlers or mascara.

The lashes look to be in good condition so I'm thinking of going elsewhere and getting them re-done. I mean obviously I should go back to the person who did them, but I don't feel I can. Will this be okay?

Long thread for a daft first world problem!

I think you need to leave it for a little while, otherwise you run the risk of losing your lashes. I think it’s recommended to wait 6-8 weeks between treatments.

Btw there are kits on Amazon to do it yourself. I do mine at home, and while it’s a little fiddly doesn’t take me long at all, and they’re as good as having them done at a salon.

Did your eyes water at all? Sounds like she needs to adjust the setting time etc - did she write down what you did the first time?

NigelHarmansNewWife · 07/12/2023 08:02

Hmm - yes my eyes did water at the end. I suspect there was too much glue used tbh as it seemed to take a long time to clean up, but I don't know. I have no idea what records she keeps as my eyes are closed when it's being done! I could tell straightaway they weren't good but stupidly didn't say anything. I've looked online and lash specialists seem to say you can have them redone a relatively short time later. I'm not bothered about the tint, it's the lift. Obviously I don't want my lashes to fall out. The problem now is that everywhere is booked up and even trying to get them sorted before Christmas is looking virtually impossible.

I did once try doing them myself but couldn't get the things you stick the lashes to to stay in place so didn't get very far!

I'm not sure what my eyes watering has to do with things? I mean a lash lift is a perm for eyelashes and I know they tell you not to get your lashes wet for 24 hours, but it shouldn't make a difference.

What did you say when you looked at them in the mirror at the end?

BringMeTea · 07/12/2023 13:59

Well if OP is British and anything like me, she probably said: 'Great, thanks'. Grin Bah, so annoying for you OP. As you know her well I would probably get her to do it again gratis.

bundleofbabyboy · 07/12/2023 14:32

@Ostryga can you recommend a kit from Amazon please? I'd love to do this myself at home! Thanks

What did you say when you looked at them in the mirror at the end?

Exactly what @BringMeTeasaid! Bear in mind I had one eye watering heavily. I was a numpty obviously.

There is only one beautician who has ever got my stubborn lashes to lift and I wouldn't go anywhere else! I've been three times to other places where there was nothing at all afterwards 😀 I think it really is down to how good they are tbh.

ChristmasPuddy · 07/12/2023 17:44

Maybe the plastic thing they stick on was too big? I don’t know the word for it 😅 but the thing that actually gives a curl. I have to be so specific with the size used on me because my eyelashes are so long.

I wouldn’t do another one now or it could damage your lashes, leave it a wee bit.

Even if you had said you didn’t like it there and then there wouldn’t have been anything they could do about it. Also re the timings, if the solution is left on your eyelashes too long it can make them weird and frizzy-like, so I’d rather be undercooked than over!

NigelHarmansNewWife · 08/12/2023 00:11

I really wanted that lovely curled lash look for Christmas 🙁

I've managed to book in somewhere for a couple of days before Christmas to get them re-done. I will be really clear about the look I want. They also want me to have a patch test 48 hrs beforehand, presumably for the tint. Tbh the lift is the key bit for me.

things go wrong - if you were happy with her previous lifts why not speak to her about a free redo. why pay someone else again!

Alchemistress · 09/12/2023 14:11

My eyes always water when I've tried to have a lash lift and I've given up - it waters down the perm solution so it doesn't 'take'. Could it be similar with you?

AmethystSparkles · 09/12/2023 16:19

It’s easy to get into bad habits when doing lash lifts. She probably pulled your lashes up too tightly so that they’re not going over the bump in the silicone pad and so there was no ‘kink’ at the roots. It’s obviously worked but she’s straightened rather than curled them. She shouldn’t have made you pay but I guess if she was working for someone else that wouldn’t go down well.

Sera1989 · 09/12/2023 16:24

I had a couple of times with one beautician where the lift didn't work. I thought I had done something wrong but after the second time I decided to change to another place and the results were great again. Don't bother going back if you weren't happy last time but do try to condition your lashes before your booked appointment as it's not a very long gap. Bizarre that your lashes are straighter now that before

CandidaAlbicans2 · 09/12/2023 18:07

Didn't she check before you left to see if what she did was OK?
Anyway, there is nothing wrong with going back and saying, "Unfortunately the curl didn't take this time so could you redo it for me please?" The worst she's going to do is say you should've said something at the time and refuse, but the chances are she'll apologise and say of course.

floofbag · 09/12/2023 18:18

I had one done once , total waste of money !
They looked the same as before !
