Help with hair appt. How do I get a warmer colour after a few years of highlights? And how do I know what colour suits my skin tone?

I'm late 40s and suspect my hair colour is washing me out. I'm naturally light/mousey brown but have ash brown and blonde highlights at the hairdresser. It ends up too blonde after 4 or 5 weeks and the colour just looks dull and boring.

I was looking at old photos of me when I used to dye it myself a light Auburn and it definitely makes me look better.

How do I know if that colour suits me now and how would I even get such a colour when I am used to blonde highlights? Would I have foils of two warmer colours? All over one colour? But how would that work with door growth and greys at the temple? I'm not keen to go back to doing it myself but need to have some idea what I'm aiming for at my hair appointment.
