Best foundation for coverage of Rosacea

Duh · 03/12/2023 10:35

I have rosacea on my nose and cheeks and have never found a liquid foundation that gives good coverage.

I have quite pale Celtic skin on the rest of my face which makes it a bit tricky as the contrast is quite extreme.

Does anyone have any recommendations for an excellent liquid foundation that has good coverage. Maybe one that works well on covering scars of tattoos?

I have a decent green ‘undercoat’ and find the Clinique yellow powder is quite effective but would love a good liquid foundation either to use with these products or (by some miracle) on its own.

I don’t mind spending a lot but ideally I would like a brand that is sub £25 if possible as I have spent a fortune on numerous foundations, serums etc to cover or reduce this and I have so many expensive mistakes.

Brands that haven’t worked include Trinny, Estée Lauder, Il Makiage and Clinique.

Also I appreciate people may have advice about treating rosacea but would be grateful if we can stick to foundation recommendations, I have had this condition for years and nothing cosmetic or medical has worked and people’s tips, however well intentioned, just get me down these days as trust me I will have already tried it. I fully accept I am stuck with it and just want to feel confident in covering it up without bankrupting myself!

Thanks in advance!

I don’t like heavy foundation, the best I have tried is the fenty eaze. Light, seems to cover up redness and doesn’t make my dry skin look scaly. You might need to reapply in the evening if you’ve put it on first thing, but I’ve not needed to.

@newnamesix yes, I’ve tried Soolantra. No need to delete your comment, I appreciate you are trying to help.

Honestly nothing works sadly. I have tried every cream, pill and even tried electrosurgery (which cost me over a grand)which did nothing. It’s definitely here to stay, I just want to cover it up. I have a relatively nice face, it’s just very blotchy! 😁

@Torganer thank you, I will look that up.

Revlon colourstay!

Nopenopenopenopenopenope · 04/12/2023 08:57

Mac Studio Fix is good for that price point and it builds very well.

Really helpful suggestions- and great prices too. Thanks all 😁

Dr jart cicapair cream and eborian CC as mentioned above works really well.

Hoogieflip · 04/12/2023 11:01

I use Dermablend, which works well. It's much harder to get now: my last tube came from Amazon although I previously bought it in Boots.

Framilode · 04/12/2023 11:18

I have had terrible rosacea for 40 years, not helped by the GP prescribing steroid cream when it first started. To be honest my skin looks like corned beef.
I have tried everything and this is best for me. Estee Lauder doublewear concealer on first. Just tiny bits blended in well. I then follow it with the standard doublewear. Expensive, but lasts.

Blackeyeliner · 04/12/2023 11:23

I'll second Revlon Colourstay. Relatively cheap and great coverage.

Ineedanewsofa · 04/12/2023 11:28

Dermablend if I want it to stay all day/night out, have to buy it online now as it doesn’t seem to be as easily available.
My every day is Charlotte Tilbury which is a medium coverage but doesn’t feel like it. I also rate the rodial concealers which are expensive but cover everything with a very small amount of product.

Tearsofamermaid · 04/12/2023 11:29

I’ve had varying degrees of rosacea (currently very little but it seems to flare up with stress in my case) and found MAC Studio Fix worked the best when it was at its very worst. I currently use Charlotte Tilbury Beautiful Skin foundation which is buildable and absolutely love it, however with the caveat that I just have a little redness on my cheeks at the moment and so don’t know how well it would work if the rosacea was in a big flare with spots etc.

Tearsofamermaid · 04/12/2023 11:31

Just to add, I use a hydrating primer which has also been a godsend - would highly recommend one if you don’t use it already.

2nd erborian anti redness CC cream.
Their CC creams have quite a decent coverage, if you like a light finish.
Instead of committing to a full size/price one, I think you can still buy miniatures in the website.
And a bonus discount if you are a blue light card holder (via app)

I use Erborian CC anti-redness creme, sometimes under other foundation, sometimes on its own, and it works as if by magic. It just seems to make the redness invisible: https://uk.erborian.com/cc-red-correct---anti-redness-cream-6AA30212.html

Erborian is very good at covering reds But if your skin is in any way dry it can end up looking flaky and worse.

Cami65 · 04/12/2023 12:28

I've found Nars Sheer glow really good for covering redness. Good, buildable coverage without feeling heavy and lasts all day. I have very mild rosacea and it covers everything (including freckles and pigmentation) and can cope with my hormonal acne without caking on spots

ManyATrueWord · 04/12/2023 12:44

I have got on very well with House of Colour concealer plus powder foundation. Before then I used Urban Decay. I was recommended them by the Benefit last because they have Excellent colour correctors. Despite the frightening bright colours worn by the consultant they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable.

For long term redness that is not Soolantra responsive I have been told I have deeper vein issues.

DyslexicPoster · 04/12/2023 12:52

Following with interest.

ChristmasBaublesandMore · 04/12/2023 12:53

Bobbi Brown full cover foundation?
Something like 48 shades.

Have you seen a consultant dermatologist for treatment?

TheChosenTwo · 04/12/2023 13:49

I got dd the dr jart cicapair tiger grass colour correcting treatment, she said it’s fantastic for covering her rosey cheeks. Not used it myself, it was about £45 but she doesn’t bother with any foundation, just wanted something to pat on over the redness and she said it’s been amazing.

I find Laura mercier concealer good for covering up the spotty bits of my rosacea

cloudglazer · 04/12/2023 14:58

Mac Studio fix is good, but as I aged it stopped matching my skin tone so I switched to Laura Mercier and it worked really well. When I need a cheaper one I use beauty pie, and this also works well

Duh · 04/12/2023 16:55

These are all really helpful, thank you. I have ordered the Erborian cc cream to start with. It arrives tomorrow and I will post back here once I have tried it.
