Best fake toenail

Due to reasons you don't want to hear I only have a stub of a big toenail on one foot. Bit niche but does anyone have recommended fake toenails? Bonus points if I can just buy the big toe. Don't mind painting them.

You can buy clear ones on Amazon- I bought a set and just used the big toe one but it looked perfect once painted & matched in with rest of my toenails.

Thank you. Did it stay on all day?

I have really bad big toenails from football- I bought a set off Amazon, so I didn't frighten the locals on holiday! I just used the big toenails as well, had to trim them but they stuck tight and they stayed on for about two weeks!

Same here! I bought a better quality nail glue from Amazon too and was in and out of pool on holiday etc and they stayed put. Definitely recommend!

These are the ones I bought..

Funnily enough I was at the podiatrist on Friday with a v similar issue- a deep crack in a big toenail that appeared and is apparently permanent. He suggested fake toenails as well, but I wondered about building up some sort of paint-on acrylic and then filing it down to join the two before painting it. Has anyone tried this?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 03/12/2023 09:18

Speaking from a foot specialist/ podiatrist point of view i cannot imagine ANY healthcare professional recommending stick on toenails! I see the damage they cause when people come into my clinic and they have had their toenail ripped off at the nail bed or have accute infection due to stuck on nails.

The best advice i can give you is to go to a foot health professional / podiatrist that can do toenail reconstruction for you. This can last a few months and some will help with conditions like fungal nails. The toenail needs to be flexible, and stick on nails are not and can create lots of problems.

Really?! He definitely said some people use them during summer, and googled it to show me. He told me to file it rather than cut from now on. What about painting on acrylic goo?

Doggymummar · 03/12/2023 09:24

Saving this post, I have no nail on my last three toenails due to self harm as a teenager and used to have acrylics from the salon but stick ons would be cheaper

No,no,no. As i say your toenails need to be flexible, acrylic etc is hard and brittle. Aside of being exceptionally painful if you catch it, it can get infected. I get a good few people a year who have real problems because they have done damage with stick on nails, and it can damage the nail bed for good.A good reconstruction will last a while, you can paint it and it wont damage the nail or nail bed underneath. They are about £40 for a big toe. They look very realistic too.

Oh thank you so much! I will take a look at this. I was thinking it might be nice to actually wear flip flops next summer without scaring the kids

This gives you an idea, looks very effective. This is one that you would paint. Natural look nails can be made too.

Would this work where there is no nail at all?

No, i would need a stump at least for something to work with. If you only have a stump and there is no nail just skin then a stick on is fine,as you cant cause any damage. It is really only if you have any amount of nail that they should be avoided.

This one is a good result on a fungal nail.
If it helps, when you are ready pm me if you need any help finding anyone in your area. I have a list of colleagues in the uk that are qualified in this.
