eBay or Vinted ?

Hi I am quite an eBay shopper...have bought some very good bands (Sandro, Maje, French brands, but of LK Bennett) on eBay....but sometimes miss things because I have been out bid and a couple of things haven't been delivered - eBay customer service has been excellent and investigated in days and refunded. Haven't tried Vinted but it seems a lot more expensive and sometimes more akin to a bit lower than shop prices without taking into account that these are non refundable items that you are taking a chance on re fitting etc. Just wondered what others have experienced and if there's other options.

I use to love eBay for buying and selling, but the fees are just to high, I am now a converted Vinted buyer and sell, it’s just so easy and no fees.

thedevilinablackdress · 02/12/2023 17:23

I'm a long term eBayer too, and have tried Vinted couple of times but not really got on with it.
Possibly it seems more expensive because on eBay, you usually see a lower price that the seller hopes will go up with bids. On Vinted, I think it's the other way round. The seller sets a price and might accept lower offers you do see this on eBay too with some buy-it-now items).
I also found the items very badly presented on Vinted, more often than on eBay - wrinkled and poorly photographed.
But, to be honest I was happy to step away from it and not have another outlet for spending more money and buying more stuff!!

After getting on well with Vinted eBay seems a lot of hassle now

uncomfortablydumb53 · 02/12/2023 17:39

Vinted definitely

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 02/12/2023 17:42

Livelifelaughter · 02/12/2023 18:14

So those that prefer Vinted, is that as a buyer ? And if so why ?

I do a bit of both. I don’t sell though.

I’m another vote for eBay. I’ve used it for 22 years which shows my age! Over the years I’ve found it to be great when various scenarios have arisen broken/lost/wrong item sent/wrong description all that. Like the pp I’ve tried vinted a couple of times but haven’t found anything I’ve been willing to take a chance on as it’s priced too high. Also I don’t imagine the customer service can be as good as that on eBay.

sunshinesupermum · 02/12/2023 18:54

Vinted all the way. I buy and sell on there. It's very simple and I've changed my whole autumn/winter wardrobe as a result! Win win. Don't agree with pp that prices are high. It all depends on what you look for.

Happygirl79 · 02/12/2023 18:58

Vinted to sell and to buy.
Ebay is too expensive

yarnwitch · 02/12/2023 18:59

I use both for buying but only sell on Vinted. Vinted is really really easy to sell on and there are no seller fees.
As a buyer, I've found there seems to be a lot of time wasters on Vinted who don't post, and you have to look at the photos really well as there seems to be a lot of ripped, stained and poor quality items on there.
I don't find it any cheaper than eBay as you have to pay the buyer protection fee which on top of postage bumps the final price up.
I've found Vinted good when issues have arisen, and I like that it's all tracked and automated, unlike eBay where, for example, sellers can mark items as posted when they're not and dispute if and when they were dispatched. I also find eBay's complaints process long winded, whereas again Vinteds has been very quick and simple.

Darklane · 02/12/2023 19:06

I’ve wondered about selling on Vinted but no idea as yet how to as haven’t investigated the site.It would be good, unworn things with labels, quite a lot of shoes as was a bit of a shopaholic & bought lots of heels but now have bad arthritis so have never worn loads of them. I just find it all a bit daunting never having done it.

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 02/12/2023 19:08

I love the ability of Vinted sellers to make clothes from my favourite brands, even clothes I own in real life, look appalling.

They usually look as if they've been slept in, (or possibly on by a pet) not ironed and invariably are skew wiff on the hanger. Not bought anything from it.

Squiffy01 · 02/12/2023 19:09

I’ve vinted!
I used eBay to buy and sell for years but always lost money on postage and fees have gone up so much.
tried vinted and it is soo easy. I love it.
quite slow at the moment though.

KissTheRains · 02/12/2023 19:16

I like the Vinted APP
It saves your searches and filters so I can search for exactly what I want in 3 taps.

Tap to open, tap on search bar, tap on actual search I want to do.

eBay is a Faff in comparison and the way some sellers fake you out by listing something for £1 but it's not the actual thing you want to buy.. it drives me mad.
"New Sterling Silver Earrings" price listed as £1..

Drop down box lists Silver earrings, gold earrings and crappy mid 90s Elizabeth duke style jewellery Box...

It's the jewellery box that's £1 the earring are £10

Vinted is better for sellers and eBay is better for buyers in my experience.

BlowingAway · 02/12/2023 21:23

I have loads of quite complex saved searches on eBay and I get emails when the thing I want appears. And then buy it.

Can't seem to do that on Vinted, I have to actually go check the app and go to each separate search to see if there's anything there.

So, eBay.

If I was less specific with what I want then Vinted might be ok.
