I'm looking for a special watch- budget around 1-3K. I can't see any that I really like. Any recommendations of brands I should be looking at? Currently just really looking at Tag

I’m an omega fan
I have a constellation and 2 older gold dress watches
If I had a bigger budget would upgrade to gold

There’s a bit of difference between £3000 and £30,000!

Getting back to reality: the better brands that price point eg Omega de Ville. Tag Heuer definitely. Longlines too. Tudor and Cartier in reach and Hermes. Baume and Mercier and Ebel might also be of interest.

I think tank watches with a leather strap always are a classic.

TizerorFizz · 02/12/2023 12:20

The problem can be that the replacement straps can be costly if you want the same brand as the watch. The leather ones with clasps last longer.

Archymum · 02/12/2023 12:22

I have a lovely Baume Mercier tank watch that I've worn daily for more than a decade and it's still looking classic and beautiful.

My husband’s Omega on a strap wasn’t great after a few years and a new strap costs ££. Daily wear and tear on a leather strap with a buckle makes the leather wear where it’s bent around the buckle. The ones with clasps do last longer, eg Jaeger de Coultre.

@TizerorFizz
I meant the one I have is available for under £3k the bi metal version but I would love an upgrade lol

I have a Tag with the diamond bezel it's about 8 years old and still good as new.

TizerorFizz · 03/12/2023 08:45

I think you need to understand watches to know why there are different price points. Generally, if the watch is automatic and from a recognised watch manufacturer, it will cost more. Battery watches tend to be cheaper. Tag do both but the automatics will be more money. Ditto with Omega. So anyone buying a watch needs to be aware of the differences and compare like with like.

I wear a men's Tag Carrera and I would highly recommend it.
My choice was between Tag, Cartier (Tank Must) and Hermes Cape Cod GM Double Tour.
I love the Hermes Cape Cod and I may end up getting one at one point but the leather strap (and the cost of getting a new one ) put me off a bit.

TizerorFizz · 03/12/2023 18:52

The Hermes ones are not leather with a clasp either. I really like their watches though. More for occasional use though.

The Cape Cod straps are leather and rightly so considering the prices of the straps! The Hermes Apple watch has so many more strap options . I think you are talking about the H08 watch which comes with a rubber or fabric strap. Another thing to consider is that Hermes watches and jewellery don't retain value (unlike their bags).

TizerorFizz · 03/12/2023 19:42

No I'm not. I’m saying the leather straps wear where they are bent to get fixed by the buckle. Some leather straps, eg the Jaeger le Coulre ones, have a permanently fixed buckle. They open wide with an elongated metal articulated clasp. Thats why their straps last longer.

TizerorFizz · 03/12/2023 19:54

If you look at the attached, the clasp is not actually a buckle. To get the watch off, you slide the keepers away, lift the strap end and the clasp opens up. Underneath the other watch you can see the metal mechanism that sits against your wrist.

Got it!😄 It would definitely be for occasional use as you said.
