Hi everyone, hoping for some help. My friend is getting married. The nikkah is in a mosque and the dress code is obviously modest dresses for the ladies / or religious dress.

Any good places anyone can recommend online? Im in south london and close to east if there are any shops people can recommend.

Im 5 foot and size 4/6 so ideally petite or easily adjustable at the tailors. Thank you.

You just need a full sleeve maxi dress. And a scarf to loosely cover your head. No need to go to any special stores. You can try John Lewis, they have some good options.

Thank you. Its going to be really grand after so I want something really special as its my best friend 🤍

Ooh ok. Try this place benharad.com/

Thank you both. The father in law is an Imam so I feel under pressure to fit in with the ladies in the family 😭 @Thavic exactly what i was after, thank you.

My DDs was last year and I went to Birmingham for my outfit. I wore something like this. And I didn't feel the need to cover my head. I was complimented on my outfit by my son in law's family which was nice

Can your friend give you any pointers on shops? When my sis got a short term job in Saudi Arabia, her neighbour took her to a local shop and all the ladies in there chipped in with opinions, she got some lovely stuff pretty cheaply that she still wears when needed.

murasaki · 01/12/2023 15:28

There was one lovely abaya (sp?) With slightly see through long sleeves, and she queried if it would be ok, and the ladies said 'if he's close enough to see your arms, he shouldn't be that close'. She bought it. Still makes me laugh.

moonbabyx · 01/12/2023 15:31

@murasaki shes going to Manchester to look for dresses but I cant go. She recommended Green Street. We are both from the same country, not the same as the groom, so its quite new to us both tbh but her mother and sister in law are helping her, i dont want to add to her stress 😭

If she knows your taste and size, maybe she can send you pics from the shop? They're unlikely to have a website, but if you see what she's got, maybe you can look online for something similar. There are some beautiful things out there, I'm quite envious of my sister's collection
But her neighbour (good friends) totally bossed it, she wouldn't have gone in by herself.

Oh yes of course. The Nikkah with the Iman for us was not in a Mosque so that makes sense! As far as online shops... there are so many, I spent many happy hours looking but can't remember now!

Roussette · 01/12/2023 16:16

Just to add... Stratford Road Birmingham was where I went. Soooooo many dress shops for this sort of thing. And for party wear. And day wear. But the wedding outfit shops were something else!

moonbabyx · 01/12/2023 16:26

I wish I could go to all these places far away. Its in less than a month and ill need a week at least for alterations too 😭 im going to venture to green street and walthamstow but im mainly looking online.

ASOS and other online stores have modest dresses. Just google - then get a wafty scarf to cover your head.

This is lovely

l can vouch for Green Street. Loads of shops including Damani’s. Plus they will sell appropriate jewellery to complement your outfit

moonbabyx · 01/12/2023 16:46

@UncleHerbie so glad you said that!

@UncleHerbie so glad you said that!

Depending on budget and when the wedding takes place, you could buy the fabric and have your outfit made to measure. That’s what lots of women do for special occasions
