Current recs for a NW hotel spa weekend?

Hi,
We have a loved one's special celebration next summer and am planning to book them a weekend away in the nicest spa hotel we can afford. I'm checking Tripadvisor but thought worth asking here!

• Location NW England preferably, but maybe over in Yorkshire doable? Are there city hotels that you think actually fit this bill better?
• Extremely good spa treatments. I have no idea about this topic but the recipient has worked around that sort of thing for years so would be very discerning! I'm thinking deep tissue massages or facial treatments, not just sitting about in a jacuzzi...
• Lovely hotel for an older couple, good breakfast etc.

Has anyone been recently to one?
I'm so wary of quality and service changing often these days with the general hospitality industry struggles, so am hoping for recent experiences.

Thank you all :)

Myself and DH and me and my mum have been multiple times to the Woodland Spa in Burnley. The food is incredible. The hotel is lovely and the spa and treatments are wonderful. A bit further south is Hoar Cross Hall which is also amazing.

Doxford Hall Hotel and Spa, in Northumberland, is wonderful - lovely rooms, beautiful location and the spa is lovely too. I am not a huge connoisseur of spas, but I found the treatment I had to be really good.
