Vinted - wrong item on its way

I have bought and sold a lot on Vinted but always had a good experience. I am a bit doubtful about this purchase though - can anyone help? Perhaps I am being overly suspicious.

I bought a dress on Vinted. 4 or 5 days passed before I got notification it was at at Inpost locker, ten minutes or so later a message saying seller's husband had posted me the wrong parcel, keep the cardigan that's in it, mark it as received, and she would post dress by Royal Mail. I sent my address for this and asked for confirmation when it's posted. Have heard nothing and sent a follow up asking if it has been posted this morning. The parcel has now arrived at Inpost so I only have 3 days to collect. As soon as I collect it will mark it as received automatically so I am leaving it there for now. I don't want whatever cardigan it is - I wanted the dress I ordered. I am hoping that if the seller is genuine then actual item would be posted /turn up. If I didn't pick up, would it go back to the seller? Can I get my money back then (I am not trying to rip off seller - I would gladly pay even if that means collecting the parcel I don't want if that's best way to release their money). It just feels a bit like I am about to be ripped off - presumably my only real choice (apart from paying for postage to return the cardigan!) is giving poor feedback?

When you pick it up, click I have a problem. Send vinted a photo of what you received and screenshot the message from the seller and send that too. It's probably a scam with an empty box. You should get your money back, but you'll have to dispose off the cardigan. If it goes back to the seller you won't get your money back and you'll get bad feedback.

If you don't pick it up the seller will still get paid and she.ll get the parcel returned to her. You.ll lose your money. Pick it up say you have a problem incorrect item sent then you.ll get a refund.

I did this as a seller, sent the wrong dress. I posted the correct dress the day after, buyer received it and marked as received, but did not collect the wrong dress from the locker. It hasn't been returned to me as yet and I've mentally written it off, my own stupid fault.

But as a seller I've done it and corrected the mistake in the same way so fingers crossed it's genuine.

Try contacting vinted and tell them someone is trying to scam you. I find thier returns process is crap, but when I contacted them about a seller selling obvious fakes they refunded straight away.

Thanks all - Sally yes that's my concern, if I had made a mistake I would be putting it right not going silent and not replying.

Pick the parcel up, mark it as received, then click "I have a problem". Take photos of the item you received and its packaging and upload them. If the seller says to return for a refund, ask them to click the box to pay the return postage themselves.

I had this last week and got my refund through today, once the seller had the item back.

If you still want the original item, ask the seller to relist it and then buy as normal.
