The perfect grey coat

Collective wisdom of Mumsnet, can you help me find the coat of my dreams? I've been looking for years. I want a grey coat, around 3/4 length, must not be double breasted (drowns me). It could be belted but equally fine if not. I like simple (this one from Hush is a bit fussy for me as I don't like the trench coat styling but otherwise is great, if you could just remove that bit..!)

Requirements: It must be soft (which I appreciate is hard to tell when you look online!) and not the harder sort of scratchy wool.

I recently splurged and bought this from Sezanne as I thought aha! the coat of my dreams finally! but it arrived and went straight back - it was ENORMOUS (went down a size and it still swamped me). But I would pay up to around that c. £350 for the perfect one.

Is there any other info that would be helpful to add? Please to reply if so!! I've not asked anything here before.

Ah thanks @Thirder ! Like you I love the shape there but definitely not the herringbone print. I want something totally nuetral. I'd probably consider other colours (boring old black!?) before anything with a pattern tbh.

I got this from H & M last year, I love it, wish I'd have got the mole colour they did too. It looks great dressed up or worn with a hoodie and trainers.

Search 'grey herringbone tweed coat' - all sorts of beauties come up. I saw a gorgeous dark grey wool coat in Zara when I was in Poland recently- was about £169 and looked divine.

Sorry @snellgrove I see you don't want Herringbone 🫣 The Zara one I saw was plain grey wool. I'll see if I can find a link

I was looking on Net a Porter. Annie Bing does a nice neutral wool coat with a belt…looks like plenty left and Net a Porter does great sales - often more than 50% off which would bring it down to your range.

Oh that's lovely, thank you! I'll go and look now

I like this in theory but my experience is that anything that says 'oversized' looks ridiculous on me. I am basically pretty much flat chested and have quite narrow shoulders so oversized basically makes me look like "borrowed mums coat" :)

This has just popped up on The OUTNET from Joseph. I think it’s gorgeous. Until a few days ago, The OUTNET was also offering 25% off everything - probably out of your price range but maybe keep an eye on it?

OMG that's gorgeous, I'm going to stalk that!
thanks!

@snellgrove - I think so too! I am going to stalk it too! But I don't need a grey coat. BUT this one is so classic. You could wear it in 10 years! Probably 20 years.

Ahna65 · 22/12/2023 10:11

Oo was about to try and bump my own grey coat thread when I spotted this. Did you find your perfect coat OP? I actually love the first one you linked to - quite like the trench style - but personally looking for a darker grey.

Zara and H&M options also decent but I want to pay a bit more for a good quality wool number.

Have you looked at Karen Millen, I have similar to this, I think they update the same coat each year 😂 It was on all the influencers list a few years ago (not why I bought it) It's incredibly warm and stylish and has been going strong for years. Can not tell you how many people have complimented it, it looks expensive and classic.
