Gel nail recovery

I am thinking of having a break from gel nails and going for a neutral natural nail.
Can anyone recommend any products or neutral polish that work well?
I've got nail envy so will start with that but I definitely want a hint of colour, pink/neutral's whilst strengthening my nails

Check out Dior nail glow.

Baxdream · 26/11/2023 08:11

That looks lovely! Reviews seem mixed?

Decidedly mixed…
i think it’s tricky to live up to the hype.

i found it nice enough but it’s not recreating that gel vibe. It does dry well / quickly.

I think giving yourself a little mini manicure first helps. I also def feel it is not damaging to nails and is gentle. It did give a good shine and is buildable.

Go to a salon that does IBX treatments. I bang on about this stuff all the time but it's brilliant, it rescued my nails after I destroyed them with too many bad removals (before I did my nail tech training and learned how to do it properly!). Mine were splitting really badly and it was the only thing that helped. Then whatever nail polish on top - decent base coat and shiny top coat for a gel look. I like good old Barry M, I find it lasts well as long as you do decent prop.

Nail Envy also comes in a pink tint, although I haven't tried it so not sure how subtle it is.

Tempytempy · 26/11/2023 16:36

This is my nails with the nail envy in the bubble bath colour. It’s a pale pink, and Samoan sand is a more pale beige colour.

This went on about 5 days ago. You add an extra layer every day, which makes it more opaque and covers up any chips.

Tbh it is pretty good, it does need the daily top up really, and if you look closely it isn’t flawless. But underneath it my nails are alarmingly damaged, peeling really badly, and nail envy is the only thing I’ve found that disguises it without causing more damage.

My nails have been really weak since having chemo ten years ago and gels made the problem so much worse. Someone on here suggested using jojoba oil for nail repair and it's been like magic. I have some in an old nail varnish bottle and paint it on in the morning and at night and my nails are stronger and longer than they have ever been.

I've switched to MoYou gel wraps and my nails slowly recovered underneath them. No scraping to remove - they've been great and are pretty straightforward.

Watch some of these vids - this is the person I was recommended on Mumsnet. https://www.youtube.com/@TheSalonLife

shivbo2014 · 26/11/2023 17:43

I have quite thin nails and I swear this has been amazing, I've only used it for a couple if weeks and my nails genuinely feel much stronger and less bendy! I know it's not exactly what you're after but just thought I'd mention it!

Not sure why my previous comment has been hidden but I had recommended taking biotin supplements to make your nails grow faster.

Baxdream · 26/11/2023 18:11

Definitely some amazing help thank you! The tinted nail envy looks fab and the treatment (the picture is exactly what I want).
For some reason I really fancy lovely natural nails, which is weird after all these years of gel! Thankfully I do have good nails but they are feeling sorry for themselves at the moment!
