M&S boots

Help me find the right boots / shoes!

Out for a work party on Friday night and I'm wearing a shorter dress than I would usually wear and basically have no idea what shoes / boots to wear.

It's not a massively dressy evening (local bar and then restaurant) but as this is our main company event and there won't really be a Christmas party, I think lots will make a bit of effort.

I don't do heels and mainly wear trainers at home and loafers at work.

Any opinions on these M&S boots?

They don't look like over-the-knee boots to me, but they look ok. I don't think I'd buy them but the price is fine,

Lindy2 · 22/11/2023 14:26

I like them.

Would you wear them again though? I could see myself wearing them quite regularly with my denim leggings.

Possimpible · 22/11/2023 15:04

They're nice but a bit casual for the occasion? The round toe and the cleated sole don't say dressy at all to me. What about black tights and Chelsea (ankle) boots?

KissTheRains · 22/11/2023 15:39

From the reviews:

"Nice shaped boot for everyday but would point out that as others have said these are definitely NOT over the knee boots. I’m 4’11 and they finish just under my knee. Very slim fitting so if you’ve a wider calf these are not for you"

I don't know why they would call them over the knee boots.

SandyWaves · 22/11/2023 15:42

I don't think these are party boots, more everyday wear.

LubaLuca · 22/11/2023 15:43

They look pretty casual to me. I'm a huge proponent of flat shoes and boots, so I wouldn't suggest heels instead to look more dressy, but the round toe and cleated sole do make them look like yomping boots.

I can recommend M&S for footwear though, I've had a few pairs from them and happy with all of them. Maybe see if there's something a little less everyday?

Thick soles are fashionable at the moment. I think if you’re not used to being very dressy, that with a dress they’d be perfect.

shoehelp · 22/11/2023 18:32

Definitely need them to be knee boots rather than ankle as wider calves mean that I can only get away with ankle boots with wide leg trousers to disguise!

Seems like M&S is a good shout then, even if not for these specific boots...anyone bought any knee highs / considering any from there they can recommend?

@shoehelp can we see the dress, and is there a budget for the boots?

KirstenBlest · 22/11/2023 19:24

I can recommend M&S for footwear... Me too.

shoehelp · 22/11/2023 20:45

Budget prob £100ish... dress is old so I can't post a link and too nervous of being identifying to take a photo!

It's just above the knee, long sheer sleeves with a button at the wrist, plain black, tightish in the body. Really simple. Will wear gold jewellery. I'm a size 8, age 35 if that makes any difference, shoulder length hair which I'll probably wear up... not feeling massively confident about any of it!

@shoehelp tights or bare legs? I don't think knee boots are a good choice with a dress that hits you just above the knee - it cuts you in sections, and also risks looking a bit panto. What about pointed black flats, e.g. these

Or a small kitten heel, e.g. these

Doingitsolo2023 · 23/11/2023 10:34

@Elastica23 oh they are nice.

Doingitsolo2023 · 23/11/2023 11:06

@Elastica23 oh yes those are fab too.

I think it’s fashionable right now to wear quite chunky/cleaty/yomping boots with dresses. As long as they’re clean and polished and not muddy!
