Make-up / skincare gift for young teen - what brands or products are popular?

My niece is 13 and is just starting to get interested in make-up and skincare, so I want to give her something in that line for Christmas. Maybe a palette or something? However, I'm rather out of touch as to what the popular / desirable / must-have brands or products are for young teens. DD1 is 22, and was no help!

Obviously, it needs to be age-appropriate (no sexy scarlet lipstick etc....).

It depends on what you want to pay and what you want to get. Revolution is popular but that's because it's at the cheaper end of the scale and so affordable for teens.

Otherwise I'd say you can't go wrong with one of the Urban Decay Naked eyeshadow palettes.

My teen likes the sol de Janeiro body sprays

villagegirlatheart · 22/11/2023 16:54

Another vote for Sol de Janeiro!
Drunk Elephant is very popular too. Last year I went into Space NK and asked the staff what they would recommend. They were spot on and I had a very happy daughter! They have a selection of "mini" sized products which could be be a good way of trialling a few products before splashing out on larger versions.

Just remembered that someone on here recommended Spots & Stripes last year. Their starter kit went down well with my daughter. She also likes Byoma.

pastypirate · 22/11/2023 17:55

Revolution brand make up and a brush kit from studio in Superdrug they do a lovely pale pink range dd2 loves.
She also likes sol de janeiro and Byoma stuff.

My dd is 11

The Spectrum make up brushes are really popular. For make up I bought my stepsons girlfriend some Fenti beauty gift set and she was really chuffed with it.

My 16 year old has very sensitive skin so I buy a natural make up brand Lily Lolo for her.

My DD is 12 and likes / wants

Sol de Janeiro
Drunk elephant
Bioma
The Ordinary
Elf

Some of it is very pricey!

Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky · 22/11/2023 18:09

For makeup she usually just goes to primark or Superdrug - it only seems to be the skincare she is so focused on brands.

bringbacksideburns · 22/11/2023 18:09

Elf is very reasonable. Benefit do some really cute little eyeshadow pallets and kits.

For palettes look at Morphe or P Louise

Do not buy the P Louise x Mikayla pallette or whatever it's called unless you know for sure your teen likes Mikayla.

Bubble and drunk elephant

CointreauVersial · 22/11/2023 22:00

Thanks all! That's given me some ideas. I had thought of Drunk Elephant, but there are definitely a few more to look at. As it's a present I'm happy to spend a bit more.....I'll get onto Look Fantastic now.

Drunk elephant is too expensive for a 13 year old.

Byoma is more popular and appropriate for that age group and well into mid 20's and above

As for make up my DD has the James Charles morphe palette and Jeffrey Star that every 13 year old wanted a few years ago

I'm not sure what's the in one at the moment

DD is now 16 and has those plus Huda palettes. They like glossier items. DD has drawers full of make up.

As for skincare she now uses Dermalogica because it's quality ingredients and I insist she has it instead of Cerave and the inkey which they see on TikTok etc but actually aren't that great and are too watered down

But yes they want the wow items so go for Byoma decent and trendy atm and glossier

Mirrormeback · 24/11/2023 20:52

I remember ordering Kylie Lip kits and lip gloss from the US one Christmas

Well before Boots or anywhere sold them over here in the UK

DD was beside herself with excitement Grin

Try Indu for palettes especially for teens. Customisable. Getting great reviews. A good range of products.

Otherwise sol de Janeiro is the pungent aroma of choice! I feel sorry for the teachers who must struggle to breathe.

Byoma, The Ordinary, Drunk Elephant etc.
