Hair dye

I’m mid forties and have never bothered with hair dye, highlights etc. Recently the grey is really starting to come through. I’d like to colour my hair, but my issue is my hair is thick and naturally frizzy. I don’t use heat on it, just wash, condition, leave in conditioner and that’s it. Will a subtle colour/ high/low lights look good on frizzy hair? Photo is not of me, my hair is brown and below my shoulders, but shows the type of hair I have.
