Finisterre

I happened upon a branch of Finisterre last week, tried the Solus coat which looked and felt fantastic. I've ordered it to try with my wardrobe at home, along with a mariners top. Just wondered if anyone has bought from this brand, and if so, what you think of it?

Excellent quality I love their clothes

Very good quality and long lasting.

Yes I love Finisterre. I have a base layer and the Farne jumper - excellent quality.

I absolutely love them, I have loads of their stuff, the oldest of which is getting on for ten years old so can confirm it really lasts. I have various coats, a couple of their waterproofs, a jumpsuit, linen dungaree shorts and a few tops. It's not cheap, but the quality is fantastic so I get one or two pieces a year and also keep an eye out on Ebay.

I'd always bought online as the nearest shops are miles away, but had the chance to go to their new store in Holt last week, I was like a kid in a toy shop!

My DH bought one of their thick waterproof parkas on ebay a few years back - seriously good coat and you can literally wear in the coldest winter and stay toasty & dry (I do borrow it occasionally!)

Thanks everyone for replying, I really appreciate it 🙂

I've done a bit of digging into the brand & it's an interesting story isn't it - started by a chap who grew up surfing on the north Norfolk coast & on holiday in Cornwall then moved to St Agnes & started the business from his flat above a surf shop to fill the gap in clothing/kit for people with his lifestyle. He began by hawking a single fleece around trade shows apparently, then progressed to a 3 page website when e-commerce launched.

I spend a lot of time in Cornwall & I'm also Autistically obsessed with the Shipping Forecast, so it seems particularly perfect for me 😀

The staff at Wheal Kitty said that the aim was to produce quality clothing with genuine longevity, & that seems to be borne out by what you all say. I'll have to update when my order arrives (hurry up DPD 😀)

I was thinking much the same - they're investment pieces, I'd only be buying a few each year & that's why I was interested to know whether they'll last. It doesn't seem to be a massive range, even online - I think they do what they do well & don't overstretched themselves, which is wise.

I happened upon the St Ives shop & that pushed me to drive up to Wheal Kitty. I met some of the staff there & they were great - all very well versed with all the products & genuinely enthusiastic about the brand & team.

They're thinking of opening up in near me & were asking where would be best, so I may get a branch sooner rather than later!

Their coats are absolutely brilliant, I've had a previous version of the Solus for ages and it is warm light waterproof and looks great. Nice womenswear that's unisex-ish.

thedevilinablackdress · 22/11/2023 08:03

Solid workhorse items, but I always feel good wearing them. One of the few brands I'll buy new.

My Solus has arrived & it's lovely. It feels very light but I think it must be warm as I remember when I tried it on in the shop I felt a chill when I removed it & I'd only been wearing it for a few minutes!

Yes. I have a waterproof jacket that folds up into one of its pockets. It’s really really waterproof. It’s not intended to be warm, (unlike the coat you have bought) but for days of hiking when it has poured all day, it has really done me proud.

Also, they have some items where they give part of the profit to the RNLI, which is an amazing charity.

Thanks @HardcoreLadyType that's useful to know. Yes I saw the RNLI collab - apparently the founder Tom Kay has been volunteering for the St Agnes RNLI for 15 years now, so it's close to his heart 🙂
