Which Christmas Jumper?

doingmyboxin · 19/11/2023 21:59

For a work night out and an afternoon tea?

And any suggestions on what to wear it with? I'm considering some leather leggings or a shirt that I can wear chunky lace up boots with.

Not sure if prefer the Christmas tree one in cream or black. Thinking cream is better if wearing with black leggings?

I like the peacocks one too, and the jumper dress:)

Godofwar · 20/11/2023 18:48

I have the black new look one so I’m biased but it’s gorgeous

@doingmyboxin I'll add a screenshot, sorry, I can't see you even linked this so I must have followed your link then gone off on a tangent 🤦🏼‍♀️

TBH I think I got a bit confused with another post completely that I was looking at (I'm very easily confused!) but this is a really nice look, I like this.

Meadowflower2023 · 20/11/2023 19:18

@dudsville that's my thoughts too, it can be used a lot more than the proper Christmassy ones ✨

@Char65 don't worry it's usually me that's the confused one so makes a refreshing change 😂

doingmyboxin · 20/11/2023 19:48

The cream New Look one has gone in my size, so I've ordered the Peacocks one Smile

Alternatively, boldly suggest no Christmas attire and do the planet a favour.
Or, if compelled by not wanting to disrupt workplace hierarchy, by second hand: charity shops and online platforms such as eBay and Vinted are groaning under the load of pre-loved Christmas jumpers in fantastic condition.

This is quite a fun sponge response. i have a Christmas jumper that I’ve worn on lots of occasions in December for the last five years and counting. I certainly don’t intend to bin it and will wear it until it falls apart (although I might treat myself to one of the new look ones bc I like that a lot!). The OP might be the same!

Exactly. All our Christmas jumpers go in the roof with the decorations and come out year after year. Surely no one is binning a festive jumper after one Christmas?

doingmyboxin · 21/11/2023 09:36

The last itchy one I bought was five years ago, so no qualms with getting myself another.

And it's nothing to do with workplace hierarchy. No dress code has even been discussed. I've just decided I'm wearing a Christmas jumper myself.

doingmyboxin · 21/11/2023 09:37

And when I say 'last', that was actually the first one I have ever bought.

I wore leather leggings for the first time in ages last weekend and I forgot how they don't breathe. You entire legs will be swimming in sweat: There is also a good chance they will start to sag by the end of the evening.

It's unpleasant. My teenage self put up with it and forgot about it but as a woman in my 40's I can't deal with this shit.

They looked great and are now in the bin.

Peachy2005 · 21/11/2023 18:28

@doingmyboxin I popped in to the 2 shops 40 mins ago while doing an errand and the Peacocks one is quite fuzzy. The New Look one was a bit finer: they only had it in the light colour and I didn’t think it particularly went with black…but if that doesn’t bother you, I think it looks better quality. I’d probably go for the New Look one in black, if I needed one. HTH

Peachy2005 · 21/11/2023 18:31

Oh shoot sorry, just saw your update that you’ve ordered the Peacocks one. It just made me itchy looking at it but you can just wear something under it if you’re the same.

Itwasafterallallaboutme · 21/11/2023 19:51

Hi @doingmyboxin The trouble with all of your choices are that 'The Christmas Jumper' is supposed to be ugly, and those are all lovely so I think you need to try a bit harder 🥳 🎄

Mirabai · 21/11/2023 21:15

Def the New Look, the Peacock one is tacky.

Mirabai · 21/11/2023 21:24

Oh just read the update 🫢

theysaiditgetseasier · 21/11/2023 22:39

I like the peacocks one and have ordered one myself (my first ever Christmas jumper) have a great time

TrustPenguins · 21/11/2023 22:43

I like the New Look one.

Bought one of these (all profits go to the Screwfix foundation & Macmillan Cancer). Handy for outdoor gardening not just for one day of the year.

Ooh that’s odd, leather doesn’t normally do that in my experience! Was it maybe something it had been treated with? It’s supposed to be breathable, one reason why leather shoes are comfortable. Might be worth checking the label, some places sell things as ‘leather’, but it’s actually just plastic coated fabric. Really annoying when they do that, nearly got caught out that way myself once.

AllTheChaos · 04/12/2023 06:11

A good Christmas jumper can absolutely last for years! Mine berated me for years about being too fat to fit into it any more 😂 Finally lost the weight (cos got sick, but still), and now I can’t find the blasted thing! I would like to wear one this year but have struggling to find something nice on Vinted. They either don’t say what they’re made of (I can’t stand wearing something that feels like itchy carpet wool, but equally it needs to be warm and not sweaty, so no polyester or nylon etc), or they are big brands and expensive. Sigh

Verbena17 · 04/12/2023 09:40

Defo the Christmas tree one! 🎄

Yeah same, I have had the same jumper for years now and I get a lot of wear out of it every December! Goes back into the attic in a vacuum bag in the new year, when I was a bit younger me and my friends would swap, probably the most used thing in my wardrobe even though only used for a month a year.

Yes, I agree with @AllTheChaos I have several pairs of leather trousers - which to be honest I don't wear so much now but did when I was younger, often all day. I always found them warm and comfortable and grate to wear. Leather should 'breath' so there shouldn't be an issue with sweat. Sometimes things are called 'leather' but are actually pleather, PVC or other manmade materials which don't breath.

EUmumforever · 04/12/2023 16:41

Cheap acrylic (plastic) jumpers will never disintegrate and are an aberration for the planet, as well as looking hideous. Good quality fairisle wool jumpers will last decades is looked after, and when they reach the end of their life won’t harm the environment. I cannot believe that some people buy a cheap plastic jumper every year.

itsnotmeitsu · 04/12/2023 17:47

How lovely it would be if we could all afford 'quality fairisle wool jumpers', rather than acrylic. I won't be wearing a Christmas jumper made out of anything, but I can see why they're fun for a lot of people.
