Is there a necklace rule?

So I have a black tie wedding soon. I'm wearing the dress in the picture with gold shoes and bag (muted gold)

Is there a rule of thumb or unspoken advice about necklaces.

Can ye give me suggestions for something to go with this?

I think in general it's good to match the shape of necklace to the neckline of the clothes. So for the V neck dress in your picture, then a pendant-type necklace to make a V shape (rather than a round, collar-shaped necklace).

If your shoes etc are gold then I would pick a gold necklace rather than a silver one.

But honestly I think the thing to do is just try on different necklaces with the outfit and see what works. It might be something that doesn't fit in with these "rules" and that's fine.

I've always done the exact opposite. Round necklace for v-necks, v-necklace for round ones.

Yes I'd go for a round shape necklace with that neckline. Either gold or mixed metals.

But if you're going big with earrings then you don't want much if any necklace.

Hair down or up?

Tbh i wouldn't wear a necklace but i would wear gold earrings so as not to overkill with gold

Yeah I wouldn’t wear a necklace with that neckline, enough going on with the print and the crossover. Would go with longer earrings (unless your hair is going to be up)

Hair is going to be half up and half down so maybe bigger earrings is the way to go.

It's where you want to draw the eye, I'd definitely say earrings rather than necklace with this dress. Maybe a very fine gold chain if you feel odd with nothing but definitely works without.

Also love the dress. I wear a few dresses this style and it does lend it self to pendants
