Hello all...

Just that... my lovely Mum's funeral on Saturday and I've just decided to wear her red cloak... I definitely look best in a red that is a more orangey than blue tone... So a true red but leaning that way.

I would love advice at different price points - and any thoughts about staying put? Want it to gleam and happy to reapply though will be doing lots of talking

Ive never bought a red without trying it but needs must and I would love it to be a joyful purchase

Ah.. it doesnt seem to let me paste the link.. I just went to John Lewis and searched red lipstick...

My husband's collecting stuff from them tomorrow... hence JL...

I know nothing about lipstick- you sound far more knowledgeable!
could you get two and choose the best? Could he go in with the cloak and get them to pick one out?

I feel that it will be a dramatic statement, and the precise shade matters less than your attitude.

From a position of little knowledge, I’d go for something labelled long lasting, and perhaps a gloss as that always seems bolder.

Do you have a lipliner? Colour your lips in first to make a good base.

Bless you. Why not treat yourself to a Chanel lipstick.

Maybe your husband could pick up two so you have a choice on the day.

Don't try to match to the cloak because your lip colour will affect the shade.

The woman on the counter can advise on a moisture rich mid red shade. He can show a photo of you.

I meant to say, don’t know much but will bump for you!

Really it depends on your skin tone and shade. You say you suit more orange-toned lipsticks but if you're very pale a vivid one will look out of place, and if you're already wearing red you don't want the lipstick to clash.

This YSL one has been tested by Grazia as a "red that suits everyone" with reasonable staying power: https://www.johnlewis.com/yves-saint-laurent-rouge-volupte-shine-lipstick/p4205711

Unfortunately, different price points is difficult with JL because all their makeup tends to be more expensive, but another option is the Maybelline Made For All Lipstick in Ruby For Me, about £8.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your Mum Flowers

Mac lady danger is a solid orangey red but not neutral, it's also not the most comfortable to wear for some

I was going to suggest Estée Lauder Carnal for a neutral red that leans orange but it looks to be OOS at JL.

Dior 999 is a very good neutral red that can be worn by anyone, comes in various finishes.

Tom Ford wild ginger is another orangey red, a less intense option.

Not at JL, Lisa Eldridge velvet ribbon would be great too.

This sounds like a case for Chanel Coco rouge. It’s a warm red and absolutely gorgeous on. My condolences on the passing of your mother. 💐

I am sorry for your loss. May I suggest that you pick the red based on your skin tone rather than the red of the cape. If you have a cool skin tone then a warm red lipstick may not suit you very well.

I love Guerlain’s lipsticks https://www.johnlewis.com/guerlain-rouge-g-de-guerlain-creme-lipstick-refill/n-22/p4061054
