Menopausal acne!

Has anyone else dealt with this? Found anything that helps?
At the moment my skin looks awful, full of spots that hang around for weeks never coming to a head.
I've tried all kinds of products but nothing helps. I'm finding it really embarrassing to be in my 50s with a face full of zits.

Are you taking HRT?
There's a Menopause Topic which might be able to help.

I'm 50 and I had this. It was awful. My cheeks were covered in huge spots on my wedding day a couple of years ago. I started to use tretinoin from Dermatica and it has hugely improved. I would recommend it. I didn't think anything would work. I pay about £25 per month for it, which is pricey, but then I was wasting more than this on trying to find products to get rid of the acne.

Yep, I've been on antibiotics for it for over a year, helps in the main but I still have 1 or 2 spots during TOTM

I second the recommendation for Dermatica. I'm 53 and it's helped my skin massively. I've been using it for almost 2 years now after first reading about it on MN. Wish I'd known about it years ago! Have a look on the Promo Codes board as there are usual discounts available there or PM me and I will happily send you my discount code.

I'm not on HRT, would it help with skin? My only other symptom is night sweats and my doctor thinks my hormone levels are ok for now. I'm seeing the practice nurse at the end of the month and I'll discuss it with her.

It looks like Dermatica doesn't ship to Ireland.

HRT didn't make any difference to my skin @GalileoHumpkins but it helped my mood massively.

funbags3 · 14/11/2023 16:50

@GalileoHumpkins My skin has been wonderful on HRT. It's done nothing for my thinning hair though. If your hormones are erratic, it'll cause all sorts of problems including bad skin.

At our age, they tend to prescribe HRT on symptoms instead of a blood test.
