From a girl who’s now in her 40s and never really had a skincare regime, these beauty advent calendars have given me a boost to start.
However, I have no idea what order, day or night products etc eg. Double cleanse?!

So, come on my lovely ladies, help a girl out and give me the low down on your morning and night skincare routines please ❤️

The single most important product for me is tretinoin. It's completely transformed my skin! My my at 67 uses as well and her skin glows. It's prescription only in the uk so you can get a monthly subscription from dermatica.co.uk or skin&me.

Honestly don't waste your money on anything else. Other than that, double cleanser and factor 50 every day without fail.

morning Cetaphil gentle skin wash, avene skin soothing cream, eye cream cerave, lrp spf, Aimee Connolly primer, clarins bb cream and mac spray fx

evening Cetaphil gentle skin wash, (double cleans with simple wash first if wearing make up later on but I don’t often, the bb cream does me) moisturiser skingrediants good fats (not loving it, prefer moogoo antioxidant cream) and Sukin hydrating mist toner, also more cerave eye cream.

BUT I’m all about comfort and hydration, haven’t many lines etc and not trying to stave them off. Have tried acids- The Ordinary, alpha h etc, and I just don’t like the stretched feeling, also skin looked plump and smoother but in a fake way (to me) I’m 43 with dry skin type and get roseacea sometimes, oh and I wear spf the whole year round- that and drinking water (I lose this battle sometimes!) are my biggest tips!! Best of luck op and sorry for the essay!!!

I'm also in my 40s with sensitive skin and a bit of rosacea.

Morning
Avene tolerance cleanser
Aveeno calm and restore serum
Avene tolderance moisturiser

Evening
Avene tolerance cleanser
Dermatica treatment for rosacea
Avene tolerance moisturiser

For less sensitive skin, I've seen others recommend vitamin C serum in the morning and retinol/tret in the evening (after cleansing).

Oh also SPF! I use la roche posay invisible fluid or the moisturising version (in which case I skip moisturiser) every day.

Tretinoin is always widely praised on here as the holy grail of skincare interventions, but be warned it doesn’t suit everyone. Absolutely try it, but don’t persist if it doesn’t suit your skin - putting up with weeks, sometimes months of tret peeling, redness and sensitivity isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

AM
Glycolic acid toner
Vit c serum
Hyaluronic acid serum
Caffeine eye serum
Moisturiser
Sunscreen
PM
Cleanse (double if wearing makeup/sunscreen)
Retinal (medik8, must start level 1 and progress slowly)
Peptide serum
Niacinamideserum
Eye cream
Night cream
Wow looks loads now I've written it down 😆

Emmmmz9 · 14/11/2023 07:08

@Musntapplecrumble thank you - would never have thought to use more than one serum

PS Start with The Ordinary...23 per cent off at the mo 😀

My best advice would be to start slowly and use 1 product at a time for a few weeks before you add another. That way you can see if your skin reacts to each product. Also, don’t spend lots on cleansers and moisturisers. Use your money for active ingredients like vitamin c and retinol.

I am mid 40s and I think hydration is overlooked as an anti aging tool! My routine is-

AM
Cerave hydrating cleanser
Curel deep moisture spray
Hada Labo super lotion (hyaluronic)
Curel deep moisture spray again!
No 7 future renew eye serum
Geek & Gorgeous C glow
Byoma moisturising gel cream
La Roche Posay Anthelios spf 50

PM
Inkey List oat balm cleanser
Roc retinol eye cream
Medik8 crystal retinal (5 nights)
Medik8 sleep glycolic (once a week)
Curel moisture milk

It seems like a lot, but takes less than 5 minutes and it’s taken me 2 years to get to this stages, adding 1 product at a time and working out what my skin needs.

Workawayxx · 14/11/2023 09:51

I do:

AM
aveeno oat cleanser
hyalauronic acid serum - I use Hado labo gold
spf50 (I don’t find I need a separate moisturiser) - beauty of Joseon rice probiotic spf50

PM
vitamin c cleansing oil (I can’t remember the brand!)
aveeno oat cleanser for second cleanse
skin&me - mine contains tretinoin, niacinimide and azaleic acid
hyalauronic acid serum
cerave dry skin moisturiser (huge tub for about £14).

I try to keep everything fairly inexpensive and simple apart from the skin&me. I’m 44 and my skin has improved so much over the past year since I started skin&me.

flaky) Vanicream SPF
