Skin & Me (cream) or Dermatica (gel) - lots of referrals

You need the good stuff now

I've been using skin & me for 2 years and can tell the difference (47)

BUT also factor 50 SPF now daily too
Ambre Solaire or garnier (or a kids sensitive one)

Chocolateteabag · 13/11/2023 23:36

And by good stuff I mean tretoinin (sp)

Coffeeandchristmascake · 13/11/2023 23:52

Never heard of that ( had to Google it) does it have to be on prescription?

At the moment I just use make up remover, a night cream once a week, moisturiser with SPF 50 and ren eye cream. My 11 year old has more skin products than I do....a bit out of my depth.

I tried a wide range of creams, some very expensive. Nothing worked, except Botox. It took me over a year to pluck up the courage but boy I'm glad I did.

Can I ask why you won't consider it?

CatOnTheCludgy · 14/11/2023 03:43

SPF 50 is pretty much what you need. Everything else is academic if you don't wear sunscreen.
Skinceuticals ce ferulic is amazing.
Put that on in the morning and night. Don't was your face in the morning, only at night.

Lothcat · 14/11/2023 05:09

I swear by Dior capture totale , it’s quite pricey but lasts ages as you don’t need much , they do the whole range too , face wash , lotion , serum , anti wrinkle cream . I’ve only been using a year but after a couple of months I noticed a difference. Won’t use anything else now

And Begin. New brand by the makers of Skin and Me but now especially for midlife skin. Contains prescription ingredients plus the best of ant-ageing ingredients you can find in brands like number 7 etc.

Ndd135632 · 14/11/2023 05:21

@CatOnTheCludgy agree with you about Skinceuticals ce ferulic. That is vitamin c for the morning. But the ingredient with real evidence behind it is tretinoin. It’s prescription strength retinol. That’s what Dermatica and skin and me contain and now skin and me’s new brand And Begin.

Yes tretinoin is only available on prescription in the U.K. But you can get it online via an online derm consultation through Dermatica, skin and me and And Begin. It’s on prescription because it is a medicine meaning….it actually works! That and botox does it for me.

BMrs · 14/11/2023 05:43

As another poster has said I'd recommend tretinoin. It's prescription strength skincare and is fantastic. I've been using for a couple of years and it's transformed my skin. My mum used at 67 and her skin is so glowy.

In addition I'd double cleanse, a good moisturiser (as tretinoin can be drying initially) and spf50 (separate not in your moisturiser) daily

Coffeeandchristmascake · 14/11/2023 14:19

Double cleanse? As in wash twice?

OP posts:
gravitytester · 14/11/2023 14:23

Yes, oil based cleanser first to remove any remnants of SPF (a MUST if you're using Retinol/Tret)/makeup. Second water based to clean the skin further.

I'm a bit younger but the Tret/Botox combo has been amazing for me! (I used Skin&Me).

Also, SPF generally will prevent signs of aging- have a good of the 90yo lady who used it on her face but not her neck.

Ilovegoldies · 14/11/2023 14:27

I'm considering using my estradiol on my neck. There are studies that suggest it may be beneficial, nothing conclusive but its got to be worth a shot 😂

Ascubudr · 14/11/2023 14:33

I use retinol and eye cream. I don't think my skin has got much worse since I started in 2016.

floofbag · 14/11/2023 14:53

How does double cleansing help stop wrinkles?
I don't really understand skincare . I'm nearly 50 and don't want injectables but would like to keep my skin as nice as I can .

Louise303 · 15/11/2023 04:12

Because the older you get your cell turnover reduces so proper exfoliation is important.
