OK so I don't need it, but I want it oh so much.

I love everything about it (fabric, colour, print, length), including the cowl neck, which reminds me of my Monsoon prom dress, brought many, many moons ago.

Currently wondering if I could dress it down enough to get away with wearing it to work. 😶

For work - why not! Dark green or navy polo beneath, a denim shirt or jacket, chunky boots (DMs?) or long leather boots. Or a chunky knit cardie?

Wear as a skirt with a cropped jumper or suede shirt over the top

Night out with heels, dangly earrings and a coordinating shrug or scarf.

would look awesome with a tweedy jacket and battered leather satchel.

I have lots of Joe Brown's they are true to size. if you are average size badonkadonk wise it will be fine - but I am large busted and find most things are fine.

Buy and enjoy!

peachgreen · 15/11/2023 15:12

Oh I love it. I came expecting to think "yuck" but it's gorgeous. My prom dress was also a velvet cowl neck and I adored it!

I couldn't wear that now, alas, because ARMS, but if you can, definitely get it. Beautiful.

I don’t think you can wear it anywhere. It’s cold now.

Something under or over it solves that. There are nice cardis!Grin

And a 'sundress' made of a somewhat warmer fabric can be perfect for British weather late spring through to early autumn.

sensationalsally · 15/11/2023 16:31

Gorgeous dress, great price. If you love it, you'll wear it loads. I can even see it with a tee shirt underneath. Or a cardi on top. Buy it now!

Predictably I am between sizes. I think a 12 will just about fit... and the 14 will be too big. Sigh. I am probably going to need to order two sizes.

Anyone who has ordered from Joe Brown's before care to offer how you find the sizing please?

I have big boobs and find that they can cut slightly small across the bust but are pretty accurate around the waist. Means the only things I can ever buy from them are skirts and trousers..

MaliciaKeys · 15/11/2023 18:13

Buy it and wear with rust coloured boots and a rust coloured cardi. It's lovely. I've bought dresses from Joe Browns before and they are good for sizing.

Hi OP, just a tip, when I feel like this I usually sleep on it, then check how I feel in a day or two. If I still want it or feel I need it, then I save it on my " things I want " list, compare it to my " things I need list", in my Listonic app,and see where it ranks. If it ranks top 5 in things I want long term, and if I can still afford the things I need that week, I buy it. If not, I save it for a later time, and often within two weeks it gets deleted off the things I want list altogether. Sounds complicated , but it's really effective, and weeds out the not so necccessary stuff whilst making sure you always have what you need, and are working towards what you really want. 😀

TheGreatestAtuin · 10/12/2023 18:44

Well I just popped back to say that I did order the dress in the end and........

I will be returning it! 😂

Alas, it's not half as nice "in person" as it looks (to me - I know some of you hated even the look of it) on the website. The green is a lot less vibrant and it appears very drab and a bit dark. Ditto the pattern is much more brown and... well drab. I'm very pale and it left me looking washed out.

The fit is also off for me - the 10 wouldn't quite zip up, and the 12 was a good fit around the waist and bum/hips, but then loose and ill-fitting around the bust.

Also there are a lot of loose threads everywhere, so not impressed with the quality either.

Oh how disappointing OP, I hate it when that happens, but I usually console myself with the notion that I'm 'owed' a dress now, so get browsing!

HeartShapedSea · 11/12/2023 15:08

I bought this dress a couple of weeks ago too and I also returned it!! It was a terrible unflattering fit on me.

Yogachick · 11/12/2023 19:11

If you can afford it,get it. Life is too short, especially when you really love an item. You could dress it with some chunky boots, knee high boots, ballet shoes, heels, cardi over, long sleeve t shirt under. Heavens you would actually be economising by buying it as SO MANY OUTFITS. And I have envy as I love it,but have awesome boobage which is always too substantial for Joe Brown stuff🙄

Oh no, sorry you didn't like it either. Rubbish!

I'm sad. I thought it was going to be fabulous.

But as @Rina66 says perhaps this is my queue to get shopping!

It appears that I've found a marmite dress! 😆

Edited

This 🤦‍♀️🤣 but I say clothes are matter of taste and more importantly what suits you 👍

OftIwandered · 11/12/2023 21:24

Sorry it wasn't all you hoped for but as you've spent the money now you'll be in credit when you return it. Need to find something else to fill that gap in your wardrobe

Bellyblueboy · 11/12/2023 22:23

And now I want it too.

thanks 😂

SkaneTos · 11/12/2023 22:25

Thank you for updating, OP!
Always interesting to read if the person bought the garment they were asking about, and what it was like.
But sorry to hear that it wasn't as nice as you thought!

I hope you will find something else that is lovely.

Did you not RTFT or even read the OPs posts before replying to an old thread? She bought it, didn't like it and was going to return it.
