OK so I don't need it, but I want it oh so much.

I love everything about it (fabric, colour, print, length), including the cowl neck, which reminds me of my Monsoon prom dress, brought many, many moons ago.

Currently wondering if I could dress it down enough to get away with wearing it to work. 😶

Buy it! There must be a discount code for Joe Browns...
Wear it with a chunky jumper over and flat boots for a more casual look.
With velvet block heels for parties. Leather jacket and sock boots for the lunch out.

Oh gawd, I love those block heels😂

outcrops · 13/11/2023 20:24

@Rina66 that’s fantastic styling

@TheGreatestAtuin buy the dress. Totally agree with cropped jumper for work

Oh gawd, I love those block heels😂

They're lovely.

I have similar pair though, brought for a wedding, and I can't bloody walk in them! I don't know why, but I find a stiletto heal so much easier to walk in.

Not that I wear heels often these days!

I have a lovely rust coloured cropped jumper that might go with it...

Well, I think you've all convinced me!

Get it!
You're absolutely right, life IS too short to give a shit.

thegirlwithemousyhair · 13/11/2023 20:40

Bit parky for me in the winter but I would throw on a nice big colourful scarf around my shoulders - maybe pale pink or green - in the office instead of the usual cardy or suit jacket.

Flyinggeesei234 · 13/11/2023 23:02

Love the cropped jumper idea.

AgneathaForest · 14/11/2023 02:01

Beautiful winter colours. Perfect neckline (so rare now), nice length for winter evening.
I don't think it would look quite as elegant with sleeves, I suppose you are meant to be in a warm place, so have left your sweet, cropped faux fur jacket at the door..

I don't like heels but the gold ones above are a perfect compliment, likewise the skinny scarf. I would wear minimal jewellery with this, the highlight being a fine gold necklace/earnings.

Dark, smokey emerald velvet ballet flats or MJ's would look lovely too.

Complete with appropriate perfume, and enjoy :)

It might be a bit extra for work. But at (almost) 40 I'm starting to come to the conclusion that life is much to short to give a shit.

Exactly, life is much too short and if you want the dress then buy it. I am trying to cut back on spending, but if something speaks to me and I can't stop thinking about it then I buy it. Life can be gloomy at times, we all need something to make us smile.

nzeire · 14/11/2023 03:56

get It!
wear it!
love it!

Chocolatepeanutbuttercupsandicecream · 14/11/2023 08:33

At least order it and try it on! You might hate it in person, but if you don’t try it will probably bug you for ages. (It’s a lovely dress, not my style, but I love the pp’s idea of dressing it down with a leather jacket and boots.)

Viviennemary · 14/11/2023 08:45

It's ok but if you love it buy it. I don't think it's suitable to wear to work.

Squiblet · 14/11/2023 08:57

Don't pay full price just before black Friday!

CharlotteBog · 14/11/2023 11:24

Screamingabdabz · 13/11/2023 19:43

It needed sleeves (sigh).

Why do designers do this? You find a great dress with lovely fabric and a nice flattering shape and yet they’re completely ruined by either unflattering high necks, no sleeves or the back is completely missing. It’s winter. It’s cold. We wear bras. Our arms do not look like Michelle Obama‘s… 😫

For going out i.e if I don't need to dress up warm, I love sleeveless and a high neck line, and I also have pretty toned arms.
I have a small chest, I am tall that style suits me well.
The cowl neck on this dress wouldn't look good on me and the shoulder straps would be too far apart.

Designers (I like to think) cater for different shapes and sizes.

Changednayme · 14/11/2023 11:38

It isn’t summer anymore. It’s a summery print

moomoomoo27 · 14/11/2023 12:10

I order things like this from Joe Browns with more every day stuff, and I always without fail return the more unusual stuff. Because although it's mostly flattering, I just can't think of an occasion where I'd wear it and it's always too OTT looking for work.

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 14/11/2023 12:45

HeavenCANTwait · 13/11/2023 19:39

With sleeves it would be great

Madness to have a slip dress in winter

Summer will come back around! 😂

NDisnormalinmyfamily · 14/11/2023 12:50

I love Joe browns dresses, every year I say I don’t need more then buy a few, they suit me, they are flattering in the right places and cover what I want them to cover, they last, they look good, what’s not to love!

StoatofDisarray · 14/11/2023 12:57

It looks like it's been made from upholstery fabric from a 1970s vicar's sofa.

Squiblet · 14/11/2023 08:57

Oh no, don't wait if you love it, in case you miss out on your size!

You can always buy it again if your size is still in stock on Black Friday and it gets reduced - and send the first one back!!

Jumpers worn over dresses seem to be very 'in'!

Cazziebo · 14/11/2023 17:29

It's gorgeous and looks more expensive than it is. I'd buy it and wear it with a cardi or blazer.

I get what you're saying as it's "floral". However the colours are 100% autumnal and it is in their winter collection.

It gives me an autumn vibe anyway. 😊

TheGreatestAtuin · 14/11/2023 19:27

Predictably I am between sizes. I think a 12 will just about fit... and the 14 will be too big. Sigh. I am probably going to need to order two sizes.

Anyone who has ordered from Joe Brown's before care to offer how you find the sizing please?
