Staple/statement jumper

ru53 · 12/11/2023 20:59

Please help! Wanting to treat myself to a really nice jumper. Torn between investing in a classic staple for a capsule wardrobe or a colourful statement jumper/something more on trend. Either way would like something I can wear often maybe to dress up or down. Any advice or suggestions welcome, budget around £100.

Here are a few I’ve been eyeing up:

Cream mock neck my favourite I think

Another one

These seem to be a trend at the moment

Double my budget but nice?

Some colour

Is this terribly dull?

Mock Neck Knit Jumper

I do like that first one. Although with the different length at front and back and the bagginess wohld definitely want to try on as a very slender model in an odd bent back position might not show much of how it would actually look!

I vote get a classic staple that is beautiful, comfortable, within budget, and made of nice materials and then hit up primark, charity shops or vinted for a couple of fun or fashionable extras!

ru53 · 12/11/2023 21:19

Thanks I think that’s good advice, I love charity shops so it’s hard to actually spend out on something new but you’re right it makes sense to invest in staples then find fun pieces second hand

Have you looked at Sezane? They have some lovely staple jumpers similar style to the ones you found

EllaPaella · 12/11/2023 21:22

Out of all your links I like the Cos one best.

EllaPaella · 12/11/2023 21:23

Agree with Sezane for a classic and versatile peice of knitwear but Cos is much better quality than &Otherstories in my experience

DGPP · 12/11/2023 21:24

I buy Sezane knitwear at the prices you’re quoting.. it is beautiful

theduchessofspork · 12/11/2023 21:51

Cream mock neck my favourite I think
i really like this. Classic but not dull

Another one
In this colour it’s a bit giant ice cream. I feel cold looking at it. It will still be a bit flappy in other colours.

These seem to be a trend at the moment
I like it, not sure you’ll be wearing it for long.

Double my budget but nice
Yes, but not classic enough to blow your budget

Some colour
link?

Is this terribly dull?
Yes, joules or bad white stuff

theduchessofspork · 12/11/2023 21:54

Oh I can see the cos link now

That or other stories then, depending what will work best with what you have, and whether you want to be punchy or snowy vista

ru53 · 12/11/2023 23:11

Thanks everyone! Lots of helpful advice here and I’d forgotten about Sezane!

The pink cashmere is my favourite but check out the knit in person as cashmere quality is not all the same......

OS boiled wool knitwear wears better than Cos's knitwear which is softer but looks older faster.

I personally wouldn't buy that blue OS colour as I think you will get tired of it and be limited as to what you can wear with it.

And finally hold off. Many of the shops will discount their prices coming up to Black Friday.

Mercurial123 · 13/11/2023 06:48

I bought the COS jumper in black last year. I really like it. It's washed well and looks good.

wesurecouldstandgladioli · 13/11/2023 13:43

I really like the 'double my budget but nice'. Looks comfortable and stylish.

Isthatarealname · 13/11/2023 14:15

Cream mock neck My fave also

Another one - dont think its good value and not keen on the colour

These seem to be a trend at the moment - probably not that timeless. Might look dated in 3 years

Double my budget but nice? - second favorite. Probably not as easy to wash

Some colour - like but does it go with enough in your wardrobe

Is this terribly dull? very expensive for a lot of acrylic

Half-Zip Knit Jumper

I really like the style of Sezane, but from my experience, especially knitwear, it is tough to maintain/keep perfect shape/condition.

I agree with COS.
I would also check ARKET- amazing quality for a good price

https://www.arket.com/en_gbp/women/knitwear.html

Knitwear

Shop at ARKET for classic knitwear from sustainable materials or choose versatile key pieces like a knit dress or oversized jumper made to last.

Doggymummar · 13/11/2023 19:39

Can't do links but I bought the silver hoody and the rose gold sweater from the new Zara collection. £100 for pair.

WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo · 13/11/2023 19:45

The bright blue Cos one is my favourite by far, and is probably the warmest of the lot being 100% wool.

You don't mention your body shape but beware of those mock / high neck ones if you are blessed of nork.

ru53 · 13/11/2023 21:00

@WhatWouldChristineCagneyDo that made me laugh, I am not blessed of nork, even with breastfeeding so usually love a high neck. Good point about 100% wool

itsalongwaybackfromsorry · 13/11/2023 22:48

Oddly, the Cos one is my least favourite ... too similar in colour and fit to the school jumpers round here worn by primary children. 😂

If i had to pick, I like the first one or the pink one, but I wouldn't pay double your budget for the pink one.

Oohmontydon · 26/11/2023 09:24

Hoping someone is still on this thread...

How does the sizing at Sezane come up? Their size guide says if you're between sizes, size down. Is that right in your experience? I'm sold on the Jake jumper!

I would go a size up. Depends what fit you prefer, but I always go size up with them (shirts, t-shirts)

Oohmontydon · 27/11/2023 12:49

Thank you, that's really helpful!

FayCarew · 27/11/2023 13:21

I only like the first one

TotalOverhaul · 27/11/2023 13:27

I love your first one. So versatile.

I love the boiled wool blue one too. Less sure about the zips and collars. They date. The first one won't.
