Cummerbunds

Question for male style...
DS18 has several formal dinners coming up, black tie required. My age and background, the men I know wear cummerbunds. Are they out of date or should I, while buying him a dinner suit, also be getting him one? No point asking him, he hasn't a clue!

No man I know would wear a cummerbund to black tie. My DH has a modern slim fit black tie suit. He is age 60.

I attend c. 3 black tie events a year with work and I’d say it’s broadly 50/50 across all ages. Certainly not necessary. One of the younger guys on our team was looking at getting one the other day because he thinks they are cool. In short, it won’t matter either way.

Here is DH in his DJ with his head cut off! I think this is the look most men would go for.

V out of date 1990s in a bad way.

Amongst my niblings at uni, in black tie several times per term, not one of them, nor their friends, possesses a cummerbund.

Can you get one to match his date’s dress? That’s what we always did in the 80s. My date had a red one and a red bow tie, along with a permed mullet! I had a red and white lace dress. We thought we were gorgeous. He looked like an extra from Dumb and Dumber and I looked like a Poundland Madonna 😂
