Hi I’m just wondering what’s peoples thoughts on designer clothes, I have some bags but looking at getting a couple of clothing pieces mainly a tshirt and a hoodie .
what brands do you suggest ? Currently looked at Burberry but open to others

Surely you should buy what you like, not brands suggested by others ?? Have you seen any pieces from designer brands that make you think, I’d love that - if so, buy those pieces.

kitsuneghost · 12/11/2023 11:36

Why specifically designer?
Why not where is good for hoodies and t-shirts?

Sounds like looking for designer for designers sake. Are you on benefits and trying to impress someone?

1990thatsme · 12/11/2023 11:37

I agree with @Sunnydays0101

I do have some designer clothes (The Row) because they are so beautiful and I love them.

I don’t buy any clothing unless I love it, whether it’s from M and S or wherever. It shouldn’t make any difference, although I tend to spend more on coats and boots to hopefully get better longevity.

Burberry isn’t an option I would go for, but wear what you like…

I am not sure what your question is.

Sorry I was looking for suggestions on good designer hoodie and a tshirt , looks good and good quality etc
sorry I wasn’t clear on that .

I don’t think many people go about buying clothes that way, hence the confusion.

If I need a bright blue hoody for example, I’ll google that and look at a few and buy the one I am most drawn to, within my budget.

It is unusual to set out to buy something just because it’s designer.

@Bagaddict7 You might be better off posting in Style and Beauty (you can ask MNHQ to move your thread by reporting it) as AIBU suggests you are looking for opinions on the concept of designer clothing rather than brand advice.

kitsuneghost · 12/11/2023 11:59

You come across a designer piece you love. You don't go seeking designer, it comes to you.

FarEast · 12/11/2023 12:11

You know they're a rip off, right? As if "designer" mass produced clothes are made like actual haute couture clothes? (or even diffusion pret a porter lines).

Bagaddict7 · 12/11/2023 13:56

Thanks I got it moved

T shirts and hoodies get washed loads so i wouldnt invest in them tbh.
T shirts don’t last so i wouldn’t spend on t shirts.
Check out Flannels or Outnet for reduced items.

windmill26 · 13/11/2023 09:42

I would suggest spending money on good accessories, shoes, coats instead of hoodies and t-shirts.
You can elevate a high street wardrobe with good accessories .
I would choose a cashmere hoodie from the high street over a Burberry one any day.

I believe Sunspel T shirts are generally agreed to be the best you can buy. They do hoodies and sweatshirts too. I've heard that they make T shirts for Margaret Howell.

I've never tried them myself even though, in theory, I agree with the idea of spending more on the clothes you wear every day. Each summer I resolve to put my money where my mouth is and visit the Sunspel website but when I see the prices I always run away.

I sort of know what you mean, OP, as this is the way my DS buys clothes - normally sports end or lines owned by celebrities . We get them for him for birthdays etc

Mercurial123 · 13/11/2023 12:01

I've had my Comme de Garcons "Play" t-shirts for years. Quality is excellent.

thedevilinablackdress · 13/11/2023 12:48

I've been very impressed with Sunspel @Floisme when I've been able to track down a few new/nearly new things 2nd hand. Don't look like much until you put them on, and then some magic happens 😊

Wait for the sale . They also have a yearly sample sale in London.

Thanks @thedevilinablackdress and @windmill26 - that's good advice!
