Anyone got any waterproof socks?

I'm thinking of buying DP some waterproof socks for Xmas. I've been looking at SealSkinz - are these any good? Any other brands you'd recommend?

TIA

Dexshell are ace.
Watch out for length - depending what DP will use them for, if there is the chance of standing in water deeper than the sock then they will just fill up and the water can't get back out... speaking from experience :)

Thank you - it'll just be for commuting, not standing in deep puddles etc. But I appreciate the heads up!

Is it the best solution, compared to having waterproof footwear and trousers for example? I understand that's more expensive, just thinking there might be a few different options that require less frequent washing between uses

I have both SealSkinz and Dexshell. Both are very waterproof, but I prefer the SealSkinz

He lives in Adidas trainers a bit like this with mesh above the toe part: https://www.jdsports.co.uk/product/grey-adidas-originals-zx-750/19585435/?cm_mmc=googleshop--google--shopping-_-pla&istCompanyId=9c5cf6f7-3142-4f9f-be57-2fce9c67adfd&istFeedId=014e8b49-620d-4e56-9e87-79529c403af2&istItemId=liwiqqwpa&istBid=t&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIj7LonsS3ggMVpItQBh3vwA1YEAQYBCABEgLvKPD_BwE

I'm not sure how likely I am to convince him away from his beloved trainers with shiny new waterproof footwear so I'm after waterproof socks as a compromise 😅I am, though, on the hunt for waterproof trainers too though they have to match the comfort of his beloveds otherwise he won't even entertain the idea of new footwear 😆

I have a pair of Sealskinz socks but I found them very tight on my legs when wearing them.

Spaghettieis · 09/11/2023 18:38

Sealskinz are great. I have multiple pairs from various of their ranges and I’d recommend any of them. If it’s just for commuting the quick dry (not waterproof) ones are good as well - they are lighter and feel more like normal socks.

spookehtooth · 09/11/2023 21:05

Would these work for him? I know like my last post its not exactly what was asked for, but I've never had waterproof socks and weirdly I after catching up on posts I had a very cloudy memory surface about encountering these at some point. I can't remember if I owned any or just saw someone else with them. I think I'm losing my marbles very slowly :-s

I have Hemy waterproof socks, they are excellent.

HerMammy · 10/11/2023 05:32

Adidas Terrex are waterproof trainers

Bobtheamazinggingerdog · 10/11/2023 05:47

I bought some on eBay for DH that were about £12. They are great! He loves them, they are really thick and warm and also waterproof. He also only wears trainers and gets miserable when his feet are wet all day.

redxlondon · 10/11/2023 06:32

If he’s going to wear them under trainers, like regular socks, could that not cause a fungal infection? I’m not sure they’re designed for every day / full day use.

BarbaraofSeville · 10/11/2023 07:28

They're also thicker than normal socks so might not fit in work shoes/trainers if he's used to wearing normal socks with them.

I think TBH if he sees this as a problem, he should wear some more suitable shoes for winter/wet conditions, rather than you buy him waterproof socks.

AnchorWHAT · 10/11/2023 11:21

You can buy waterproofing spray for his trainers. Sealskin waterproof socks have a kind of inner lining that is a bit crispy so not sure how comfy they would be for everyday. They are also a bugger to dry. Might some good quality wool socks be better? Or as pp said the thinner water repellent rather than waterproof sort.

Limth · 10/11/2023 16:02

Thanks everyone - loads to think about here!

He always wears slightly thicker socks anyway (like sport socks) with his trainers to not too concerned about them being too thick.
I'm going to have a proper look at all these suggestions over the weekend and do some proper research! Thank you!
