Lands End coat P or R?!

I would like a warm, full-length, water/shower proof coat as I walk to places a lot and walk the dog etc.

I like this one from Lands End but they tell me I need a regular but looking at the length I think it would swamp me.
I am 5'3
hovering around 9 stone 9lbs
I am rectangular, wide ish shoulders, no waist and lot long arms.
M&S short trousers are just a bit too short and regular need to be taken up.

My worry is that the Petite coat is likely the right length but may be too narrow in the body to be comfy. Their sizing thing keeps recommending R size 14-16 (US M) which seems way too big as I'm generally a 12 - although it's true that is in M&S, not H&M . . .

Is anyone a similar height and size to me and has bought a LA coat? I know I'm asking for trouble going for full length. I'd usually go to Uniqlo or Muji for such things as they seem better on arm and body length. I avoid anything maxi length, usually.

And, yes, I am aware it's not high fashion but I'm sick of being cold and wet 😀

I’m a little taller than you, usually a size 10. I had to go down a size and get the petite range in my Lands End coat as the 10R drowned me. 8P was right with room for a jumper underneath.

Aha! Sounds as though I am right to mistrust their size-finder thingy. Thank you for sharing.
I hear the coats are very good quality - are you happy with yours?

I'm shorter than you, 5'1" but heavier (a bit under 10st at the moment I think, mostly U.K. size 12). My favourite warm winter jacket is LE, it's a petite us size 6-8 ... it's a bit snug at my current weight. Had it for years, massive amount of use and still looks fine. I've loads of their T-shirts and other tops, Small is plenty big enough.

I'd have thought with the style you're looking at it'd be better to err on the side of a little snug rather than too big (I'd probably look as though I was wearing a sleeping bag in that sort of coat tbh though they can look fine on other womenGrin)

LE are usually good about returns and exchanges, not sure if it's always free or if you need a code.

3Tunes · 06/11/2023 16:05

I’ve only just bought it so can’t say much about the quality yet, I’m afraid. Takes a few years to find out!

They were very good about returning the original one and exchanging it for the smaller one for free, though I couldn’t get the smaller one in the colour I wanted.

Fretfulagain · 06/11/2023 16:07

Thanks Errol - I'm resigned to looking like a house brick wrapped in a sleeping bag. I do have a waterproof coat but it is knee length and I've had enough of soggy legs from the knee down and frankly it's not as though I look elegant in that so I may as well be warm and dry!

I'm thinking a P in 10-12. I'm usually a 12 I think . . . and if it's a 10-12 maybe it runs a wee bit smaller? Surely size 8 would be too small. You are a size 10, usually in UK, 3Tunes and an 8 worked so using that as a guide, I'd be a P10.

And a P10-12 is the closest to that.
I wonder if I should look at PJs and t-shirts now I'm here - MN seems to rate their basics, nightwear and swimwear. Hmmm.

You should, but imo they're expensive so I wait for sales or offer codes.

3Tunes · 06/11/2023 16:24

I find they come up huge, my size 8 dd can’t wear any of their stuff as it’s just all too big. Even the kids stuff!

I do like their basics (pyjamas are good, so are t-shirts) but I always wait for a code. If you put things in your basket and leave them for a few days, you’ll often get emailed a code. Or just keep an eye on the website.

Fretfulagain · 06/11/2023 16:27

Thanks - there is a code on there now for 30% a lot of stuff, although not everything. The coat has a code, which makes it a good price, I think.
I know it's not an original comment but the styling is baaaad.
